ABOUT WAFALME, ABOUT SLUM TALENT TRUST.

Wafalme is a thrilling group, the youngsters hold the crowds captive, the audience sits on the edge of their seats while some get on there feet entirely unruffled by this exciting hip-hop group who are steadily gaining popularity both locally and internationally. Their talents and captive voices saw the birth of Slum talent trust, an organization that is aimed at promoting the slum talent artistic talents. It cuts across gender ensuring that the talented children from the slums and other disadvantaged children get access to education, housing and healthcare while supporting there parents on the other hand.
Slum Talent Trust vision is to develop and ensure that these kids have an opportunity to explore and exploit their talents to the fullest without the presence of hunger, ignorance and fear deterring them from attaining there dreams and capturing these strong-hidden voices.
Wafalme is composed of eighteen kids of ages between 8 and 23; they have composed and recorded breathtaking clips and records, with the support of well wishers while managed by the founders of the slum talent organization. They have aspirations and dreams which they are working towards achieving and this can be seen in the productions they have done ranging from pamoja a Swahili word meaning harmony, wisdom, life in the ghetto, mama, in this world, education among others. So far they have some of there clips being broadcasted on different Television stations, they also have an upcoming show on M-Net where some of there productions will be viewed.Recently, having been moved by the plight of Haiti people after the devastating earthquake, they composed and recorded a clip ‘Kidz 4 Kidz’ a song that gives the children and Haiti population to always stay positive amidst temptations and calamities.
The clip ‘My Story’ among others have been produced and performed with a thump. There productions are about them, for them and with them reflecting on slum life and social issues surrounding them, being aware of slum life. There future is though bright as they bring there talents to the fore. Though the obstacles of poverty and hunger and too pronounced and despite the current misgivings and merger resources, the group’s success is seen to bring about significant changes to the lives of its members and the significant others.
Wafalme, have pulled crowd and performed for a crowd of up to 40,000 people thus they gain popularity.Wafalme production, Trash is Cash touched the heart of many through its artistic-imaginative creation and delivery thereby winning an award honoring them as the world best climate change “reporters” on MTV positive change award in conjunction with Earth Journalism. They are a determined and an enthusiastic group of kids, this is where slum Talent Trust becomes handy in ensuring that there dreams are captured and nurtured in the best way possible.
