O JAANEWALE HO SAKE TO LAUT KE AANA

O JAANEWALE HO SAKE TO LAUT... Lyrics & Chords

Original singer: Mukesh

Here is my rendition. Feedback is welcome.

This song is from the movie “BANDINI” (1963). Very sentimental lyrics by Shailendra and lovely music by S.D.Burman.
This song is about the heroine Nutan who quietly walks away from her house for good in the middle of the night leaving everyone shocked and wondering. Mukesh’s soulful singing addresses her to return.

LYRICS

O jaane wale ho sake to laut ke aana
O jaane wale ho sake to laut ke aana
Ye ghat tu ye baat kahin bhool na jana
O jaane wale ho sake to laut ke aana

Bachpan ke tere meet tere sang ke sahare
Bachpan ke tere meet tere sang ke sahare
Dhoondenge tujhe gali gali sab ye ghum ke mare
Dhoondegi har nigah kal tera thikana
O jaane wale ho sake to laut ke aana

De de ke ye aawaz koi har ghadi bulaye
De de ke ye aawaz koi har ghadi bulaye
Fir jaye jo us paar kabhi laut ke na aaye
Hai bhed ye kaisa koi kuchh to batana
O jaane wale ho sake to laut ke aana
Ye ghat tu ye baat kahin bhool na jana
O jaane wale ho sake to laut ke aana
-——————————————————————
MEANINGS:
o jaanewaale ho sake to laut ke aanaa
o jaanewaale ho sake to laut ke aanaa
(Oh the one who goes away, if possible, please do return)
ye ghaat tu ye baat kahin bhool na jaanaa
(These river banks, these paths/ways, don’t forget)
o jaanewaale ho sake to laut ke aanaa

bachpan ke tere meet tere sang ke sahaare
bachapan ke tere meet tere sang ke sahaare
(your childhood friends, who loved your presence)
dhoondhenge tujhe gali-gali sab ye gham ke maare
(they’ll search for you street by street, saddened by your departure)
poochhegii har nigaah kal tera thikaanaa
(they’ll ask everyone for your whereabouts)
o jaanewaale ho sake to laut ke aanaa

de de ke ye aawaaz koi har ghadi bulaaye
de de ke ye aawaaz koi har ghadi bulaaye
(frequently, they will be calling out to you)
phir jaaye jo us paar kabhi laut ke na aaye
(once one goes over to the other side, one never returns)
hai bhed ye kaisaa koi kuchh to bataanaa
(This misunderstanding, let someone explain)
o jaanewaale ho sake to laut ke aanaa
ye ghaat tu ye baat kahin bhool na jaanaa
o jaanewaale ho sake to laut ke aanaa

Very nice and emotive singing VSG ji! Beautiful song.
I wonder how nicely theme for songs were designed in those days.
The English translation was very useful to understand the apt choice of the tune.
Thank you.
Regards,
Giri.
