LYRICS and meanings

Il était cinq heures du matin
On avançait dans les marais
Couverts de brume
J’avais mon fusil dans les mains
Un passereau prenait au loin
De l’altitude
Les chiens pressées marchaient devant
Dans les roseaux

{Refrain:}
Par dessus l’étang
Soudain j’ai vu
Passer les oies sauvages
Elles s’en allaient
Vers le midi
La Méditerranée

Un vol de perdreaux
Par dessus les champs
Montait dans les nuages
La foret chantait
Le soleil brillait
Au bout des marécages
Avec mon fusil dans les mains
Au fond de moi je me sentais
Un peu coupable
Alors je suis parti tout seul
J’ai emmené mon épagneul
En promenade
Je regardais
Le bleu du ciel
Et j’étais bien

{Refrain}

Et tous ces oiseaux
Qui étaient si bien
Là-haut dans les nuages
J’aurais bien aimer les accompagner
Au bout de leur voyage
Oui tous ces oiseaux
Qui étaient si bien
Là-haut dans les nuages
J’aurais bien aimer les accompagner
Au bout de leur voyage

========

It was five o’clock in the morning

They advanced into the marshes covered with mist

I had my gun in the hands

A sparrow took off from the altitude

The dogs went before a hurry in the reeds

Above the pond, suddenly I saw the wild geese go

They went off to the south, the Mediterranean

A flight of partridges, over the fields, climbed into the clouds

The forest sang, the sun shone at the end of swamps

With my gun in the hands

In my heart I felt a little guilty

So I left alone

I took my spaniel for a walk

I watched the blue sky and I was

Above the pond, suddenly I saw the wild geese go

They went off to the south, the Mediterranean

A flight of partridges, over the fields, climbed into the clouds

The forest sang, the sun shone at the end of swamps

And all these birds were so well up there in the clouds

I would have loved to accompany them to the end of their journey

Yes all these birds were so well up there in the clouds

I would have loved to accompany them to the end of their journey.

I heard this yesterday, but forgot to comment….you have sung this very well, just the recording was a little muffled. Its not easy to cover french, that too such a long song….so hats off.
Interpretation is the revenge of the intellect upon Art ………….Susan Sontag.

Here are some of my interpretations …of originals I love

Hi Harshanji,
Not many will be interested in French songs, I believe, and I am so glad you listened to this.
The first recording was indeed slightly muffled which you have heard. Even before seeing your comments, I got it replaced with a clear recording.I have now given above the link to the song by the original singer, Michel Delpech, himself. Those interested can hear that too.
Cheers and MANY THANKS INDEED!
