Oru Neram Enkilum - Mal Devotional Unplugged
Oru Neram Enkilum - Mal Dev... Lyrics & Chords
Album: Thulasi Theertham
Music Director: Radhakrishnan TS
Lyrics: Chovallur Krishnankutty
Original singers: KJ Yesudas, KS Chitra
I was reminded of this beautiful devotional song by one of my cousins, and I then realized how much I love this raaga (Dwijawanthi/Jaijaiwanti) and this song. Both Yesudas and Chitra Chechi have sung this with so much devotion, one cannot but feel the presence of Guruvayoorappa. I may have listened to Chitraji’s rendition of this perhaps a 100 times, and sung it myself 50 times!
Here is my humble attempt of this devotional classic. I have started with a small alaap and then proceeded wth an unplugged take.
Many Thanks to Kumar Srinivasan for patiently reviewing my earlier take of this, and giving some wonderful pointers. I also have to thank so many wonderful Keralite/southie artists I have met through this forum – Harshan, Govindji, Rajeevji, Babu ettaNNa, LK, Biju, Kala Chechi, Anju George, Uthra, Radhika, Meera Manohar, and the list goes on… but Thanks for all your encouragement and inspiration to attempt in Malayalam.
I dedicate this song to all my Mal friends. Please bear with my diction errors – if Palakkad accent comes here and there, please enjoy it! :-) Do listen and drop in your sincere valuable feedback.
You may download for a better listen as there is some static noise in the Play mode…

Thanks so much Saroj. You are always so encouraging. Due to my in-between dialect, Tamil/Mal songs are most challenging for me with diction. Thanks for your comment. :-)

7:32 minutes seem to be very short… Absolute tranquilizer creamed with divinity… Just close your eye-lids, give this a listen – you will feel the sanctity and vibrations one would feel in His shrine… My best wishes to have a successful and ever-lasting journey… Don’t set up any goals in music or we shall be deprived of the chances to listen to gems as this… Happy for you and God bless you… :)

Sudha – first off thank you for the dedication. Love this song myself. It seems the last time KJY sang this here in the Mahalingapuram temple, this left the audience and him in tears.
You have beautifully felt through this song :-) very bhakthi laden. Diction can be smoothened out further, but your liking for this song did shine through. The alaap also was v enjoyable. Good work, Sudha.

@Radhika – Thanks dear. Always look for your precise feedback. I’m sure I would cried in the audience had I heard KJY sing this then… Will surely work on diction/pronunciation, its going to take a lot of effort and experience there…
