Mere Naina Sawan Bhadon - Female cover
Mere Naina Sawan Bhadon - F... Lyrics & Chords
This song needs no introduction.
Movie Name: Mehbooba (1976)
Singer: Lata Mangeshkar
Music Director: RD Burman
Lyrics: Anand Bakshi
Year: 1976
Beautiful melancholy RDB composition based on raag Shivranjani, with the haunting high-pitched voice of Lataji who has sung it in such an inimitable manner, that to me it was impossible to do justice to all its nuances, having been tested to the hilt on breath control itself.
Do listen to SRGMP’s Amanat Ali version on Youtube.
Thanks Harshan for reviewing this and all your useful pointers. This goes out to all you Kishoreda and RDB fans out there!
Here is my humble attempt. Do listen when you get a chance, and drop your feedback.

Sudha …these are songs which cannot be perfectly reproduced because of all the nuances and the required breath control. Hats off for attempting this toughie, the long stretched OOOOO….was enough for me to click the favourite button :-)Very well done and like the mix, your vocals are crystal clear.
Interpretation is the revenge of the intellect upon Art ………….Susan Sontag.
Here are some of my interpretations …of originals I love

Sudha!!! A rejuvenating number to listen and start my day… :-) Your appetite to cover Lataji’s songs has always fetched you accolades and your attempts never turned futile… So is the case here… Kudos for giving a sincere attempt at this number… I admire the way you go with sinusoidal modulations of voice… Perfect emulations; Confident singing; glossy flow; unassailable breath control and gracefulness make this package an enviable legion… My lexicon has become scarce to hint me apt words to appreciate and pat for that last sustainment of ‘O’… And very few notes going for berth have had occasional jerks… You need to focus that region… Having said this, I ought to admit that I have rewound some portions and plunged into ecstasy… Hope I carry this joy through-out this day… Thanks for sharing…

Excellent rendition Sudha, got goosebumps while listening. Superb pick. The OOO’s are awesome, felt that in some places the harkats could’ve been slightly better esp like when you sing the first “pyasa” each time. This is not the original pitch, is it?Marvelous singing, becoming a fan.

Thanks a bunch Adwait, Sai, Swati, Rekha, Srividhya, Rakesh, Pradeep, Vidya, Sukumar, Paras, Tara, Kumar and Sowmya for listening to this haunting classic. This song has been haunting me for the past week (donno where I heard it…) but I had to accomplish recording it over the last 2 days!
I’m happy to know most of you liked the long eerie-O alaaps, and some of the harkats. Also, noted your points on which areas could be better. I may have kept some of my variations in places like Pyaasa.
Profuse Thanks to all of you who liked/fav’ed too. There should be a new button for “Enjoyed” ;-)

You have done an excellent job. Great expressive rendition… Great voice … Some of the pointers already mentioned above on breath control and more perfection in the harkats etc., I also felt a few pitching issues here and there… I am just mentioning this as with little more concentration you could have uploaded a perfect song… You are almost there anyway…Also felt the ‘phir’ was sounding like ’bir’at most of the places… may be I need a good quality hearing aid…lol
Hope you will take the critical points in the right spirit…

Simply Brilliant. 5/5, Favorited.
I never understood why people just go after xerox copy of the original. The original recording is once for lifetime and may be hard to re-produce by anyone. I always felt that a Karaoke Singer should always be judged on the basis of capabilities of doing most of the things and not all the things just like when you go for an interview for a job.
Based on my viewpoint, I rate this version of yours as Mind Blowing without going in every bit of detail of the original.
