KaruNaalaya nidhiyE - short attempt in Hindolam
KaruNaalaya nidhiyE - short... Lyrics & Chords
Hi Muziboo friends,
Uploading after a while after my trip to India, but for the occasion of Janmashtami, here is a Carnatic composition in ragam Hindolam (Hindustani Malkauns) – KaruNalaya nidhiyE. This was composed by 19th century Poet, writer and composer, Vedanayakam Pillai. Read this beautiful write-up about him. I love this song for its flow and Sanskrit-based lyrics in Tamizh.
This is just a single and only take, just to test out my new Blue Yeti Pro mic presented by my hubby. Pure Carnatic pros, please excuse for any mistakes. I have only sung the Pallavi, anupallavi and 1 charaNam.
Your sincere encouraging feedback is most welcome, and will help me.
This song is an offering to the ever-forgiving and kind Lord – karuNaalaya nidhiyE. Enjoying the last bit of summer vacation in the background is my toddler princess Vanshika dancing….

Sudha: Divine! Loved the starting alaap and your clear singing. There was silence at 1:14, 1:15ish or not sure if it is the player problem.

Thanks a lot Rakesh, Harshan, Swati, Latha, Neil, Tha, Ramesh, HarryJ, Sarmi, Uthra, Hari and Madhukarji for checking out this semi-classical post. Really appreciate all your encouraging f/bs!
@Rakesh – Had a great time at the B’lore Muziboo meet – wish I didn’t have an early flt to catch the next day, so I could have heard and sung more…
@Harshan – Thanks again. I’m horribly weak in Carnatic myself – these are just brave attempts of songs I’ve heard so often!
@Swati, Latha, Neil, Tha, Ramesh, Harry, Sarmi – Thanks for your unflinching support!
@Uthra – So nice of you to login from India… I find streaming delays on the player on slower connections. :-)
Hari, MadhuJi – Thanks so much for stopping by. :-)

Welcome back Sudha,
Have not heard this kriti before. You rendition had a blended feel, hindustani with a carnatic touch if you know what I mean, especially in the first half. Very good rendition overall. Liked your attempt.

Lovely singing in a crystal clear voice, Sudha. Great devotional feel. Low registers are very clean. I would say the mic passed the test with flying colors :) Great!!
P.S: Vanshika’s cute voice in the background helped me imagine little Krishna while listening to this :)

Sudha – welcome back! Hope you had a wonderful trip. Very nice singing and very good depth in your voice. The alapana espec had more of a hindustani feel :-), but bec of the sanskrit lyrics didnt sound out of place. Espec liked espec the way you ended.
PS: Liked your daughter’s backing vocal support too, in between :-)

Brave attempt sudha. You sang really well. This is my fav carnatic song and one of my fav raagams too.According to my knowledge,i have heard from many classical musicians including my elder sis that the words should not be separated. In this whole song the word ’karuNalayanidiye’you sang it separately ‘karuNa-layanidiye’ like that.If iam wrong, please ignore it ma.But enakku terinja varakkum in classical music the words should not be separated.Otherwise loved it throughout in your bold voice sudha. Please dont mind my words.Goodluck.
Hope u enjoyed the india trip.Excellent microphone and lovely voice of your kid.

Thanks a lot Kala Chechi and Srini.
@Kala Chechi – Thanks for the constant encouragement. You are too generous.
@Srini – Thanks again. I do agree with you… I subconsciously did separate that word – my bad. Will remember not to do that for future renditions. I always like your candid sincere f/b Srini. It helps a LOT.
