Chethi Mandaram - Mal. Devotional (unplugged)
Chethi Mandaram - Mal. Devo... Lyrics & Chords
Here is an innocent Malayalam devotional classic, originally sung by P. Susheela. Such a simple beautiful composition that reminds one of God’s own country, Kerala and its Guruvayoorappan.
This song holds some childhood memories for me, as I’ve heard this from my Paati, aunts, my mother, my sister, and a dear friend Malini from Ernakulam. Malini used to sing it so beautifully and in her own style – I had never heard the original…
I don’t speak Malayalam, so here goes my humble sincere attempt, with a small alaap.
Thanks Harshan and Adithi for reviewing this one!
This is for all the Kochu Guruvayoorappans, the innocent little tykes in this world!
Hope you all can listen to this, and do leave me your valuable feedback.

Sudha, Very nice. really enjoyed. diction and brihas and everything were good. i liked the way you took the pallavi. guruvayoorappa ninne… “niNNe” diction was diff. And i felt you were holding back your voice for high note. vakacharthu… and all. But over all it was a treat. Very nice voice and tone. Great singing.
thanks for doing this. :)
Best!!!

Sincere, honest and simple yet sweet rendition of this regional classic! :)
Loved the Anandha Bhairavi alaap in the beginning! Very nice to see you trying this Malayalam number after all those mindblowing Hindi numbers….shows your versatility….!
Straight to favs! :)

Sudha, We are getting some great unplugged numbers here. The classic alap in the beginning was excellent. You have sung this in as a rather flexible version. Enjoyed it. The ending phrases of both charanams had some minor hiccups. Very thoughtful of you to have the tanpura in the background. Congrats for this excellent song.
Keep singing!

One of those few mal songs that is familiar to me. Nicely sung. Breath control during the alaap was good (the “aaa” at the very beginning was nice to hear). Felt that you could have lowered the pitch a little bit? Just my opinion. Keep such beautiful unplugged versions coming.

Sudha – a song thats very close to most Mallu hearts – thanks so much for picking this. Awesome start and very good singing. Good clarity in the mix. Diction wise, the guruvayooRAPPA and ninne are the ones which stuck out as non mallu singing – good job with the rest, Sudha. Really liked this one from you.

Radhika – Thanks for the diction pointers… I will keep them in mind – Got niNNe, how should I pronounce Guruvayoorappa?
Thanks,
Sudha
Radhika Nair (away) said
Sudha – the “ra” and “ppa” of guruvayuRAPPA need to be softer. Its not Ra, but its ra (you have sung the Ra sound somewhere in between) and the stress on PPa has to be a notch milder. Wish i knew phonetics to better convey what i mean!
