I recently came across an article about Monty Sharma and came to know that he did the background score for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movies, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas and Black. Although background score is very much a thankless task in Bollywood, I believe it played an equally important role in success of all these movies, especially Black. Saawariya marks the debut of Monty Sharma as a music director.
Music has been always the hallmark of Bhansali’s movies and it must have been an unbelievable burden for a virtually debutant music director to take on the task of composing the tracks for such a big film. I was pretty sure he must have done a great job as I found out Monty is a nephew of music maestro Pyarelal Sharma (of Laxmikant – Pyarelal duo).
Till now I knew only one song from this movie – Jabse Tere Naina, which I love and so I decided to listen to all the songs. I started with the title track by Shail Hada and just couldn’t get past it ! What a voice and singing ! Bhansali sure has a keen eye for talent and after showcasing Shreya Ghoshal so beautifully in Devdas, here we have yet another singer evidently soaked with talent.
The song kept haunting me for days and finally I found a good karaoke track to record it. Hope I have managed to do some justice to this wonderful song ! Please listen at your convenience :-)

Felt a few places could have been better….the way he sings “bitaake…sajaake…tho…” sooo softly…i think u shud really adapt that!
Especially towards the end of the song u were amazing

on a seperate note what you have mentioned in the description so very important. I mean we as an audience should really spread the word that when a song is sung it does not SOLELY belong to the playback singer. There s the whole music director and the whole accompaniment thing that goes along with it.
Unfortunately given the sheer volume of Content in India we either fail to notice or just ignore and in turn credit composers or director and the song solely rests with the playback singer
Anyways , it was really very kind of you to do all that research and put in all that extra information ! it was truly a great effort to bring to the table all those unknown details

this is very good singing….but you are better than this….Flats at Take off is typical error and just sing the music in mind before u really SING the words….wud help u to get rid of these take off Flats….

I DISAGREE on Harsha’s comment about correcting the notes using softwares….Well of course its possible but the u loose the beauty o ur natural voice….and it not should not be taken for granted that there is somebody to correct ur voice technologically….Thats my point….Should Practise hard to deliver Flawless rendition….

Appreciate your input but I didn’t quite understand about flat notes at take off …and the technique you mentioned ……May be we can discuss this offline. :-)
You are right about pitch correcting tools…One should work hard to deliver flawless rendition …and that’s the reason singers like Lata, Rafi, Asha, Kishore etc are so revered even today ! Atif will be popular but will never be critically acclaimed ;-) …Since we are on this topic already , I have to add that, pitch correcting has been a norm in western music industry……Their argument is …just because you use GPS doesn’t mean you don’t know how to look for directions or if you use spell checker it doesn’t mean you can’t spell ;-) ….

Almost everything was done beautifully here. Lovely voice; controlled and expressive singing!
High notes were slightly strained, as you already admitted. Apart from a few minor weak notes, your singing in the first half sounded a bit rushed.
Although I haven’t heard the original, I don’t think your rendition is far from it. Commendable effort! Thoroughly entertaining! Keep ’em coming!!
