Hello Friends,
This time, by GOD’s grace, got the opportunity of collaborating with MUZIBOO’s own Exponent in Rabindra Sangeet, Giridharan, who also happens to be my cousin !
When Giri had suggested to do this as a co-venture, my humble self was overwhelmed & had immediately agreed. But when I heard his awesome vocals in style along with the track, I told him that his solo rendition would any day be better than presenting this as a duet with my co-singing, to which he vehemently disagreed and affectionately forced me to sing this with him ! I still feel that only due to Giri’s soulful rendition, this has come out as what it is now !
Thank you so much Giri for being persistent in doing this with my humble self and also for being extremely patient in locating / correcting my Bengali diction/expressions.
Giri has also the following to say about this particular song…
Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was open to several forms of music. The Gitabitan (garden of songs) – as the collection of over 2,200 Tagore songs is called – has several songs set to tunes of Scottish ballads, Irish folk and European classical, South Indian Carnatic music and the music of the Bauls (wandering minstrels). The Bard truly did leave behind an amazingly large repertoire of songs!
He wrote this song Ami Chinigo Chini tomare in the year 1895 set in a western tune and there is also a story about the woman for whom he composed this song.
The meaning of this song goes like this…

This beautiful song also appeared in the great Satyajit Ray’s 1964 movie Charulata, sung by the legendary singer Kishore da.

Anything in Waltz make me go musical but this one in Bangla and that too from Rabindra Sangeet….Wah. Why do I have this feeling that I have heard it before? Ami Chinigo Chini Tomaare felt as if I have definitely heard it before. Beautiful collaboration by two soft and sweet voices….Giridharan Ji and Thinkal Ji what a lovely performance by both of you. Very intelligent by keeping Giri more upfront and let Thinkal Ji deliver his magic supporting Giri. Lovely melody and lyrics….simply awesome and quality upload. A must download.

I consider it as a great honour to have got an opportunity to sing with him a Rabindra Sangeet song. (And certainly it is impossible for me to match his ability and great power of sustenance at higher octave notes, which I consider to be unique in many of his noteworthy Rafi Saab’s numbers).
