First of all thanks to George for starting this discussion. Atleast now I get to analyse my strengths and weaknesses otherwise have never taken music serious. i am classically trained for more than 10yrs. I had no choice but to attend classes then:) I am very passionate abt singing. Shud thank Kumaran for pulling me into this wonderful place with so many talented ppl. I have made very good friends too and have improved a lot as a singer.

Here goes my analysis.

+

1. Have a good voice.i usually go for the songs i like and don’t see if that will suit my voice or not…

2. my range is pretty wide… I can do songs like mar jaavan, bombay jayashree songs which r low and songs like mundhinam, sundari that r pretty high.

3. I have certainly improved my expressions after joining muziboo.

4. i rely on my hard work when it comes to doing a song… i sometimes sing a line for hrs untill i am satisfied…

5. my sruthi sense is pretty fine… haven’t had much complaints so far:) i myself cant listen to my singing off pitch

-ve

1. I am a very poor listener… I hardly listen to songs… thats a major draw back and tend to go wrong in selecting songs. infact i wud have listened to more covers than originals after joining muziboo:)

2. my lyric sense is very poor. i always concentrate on the tunes and variations and am lost when it comes to lyris.

3. i take a lot of time to record a song. infact envy george when he says he recorded a song in 10mins :)

4. my timing sense is poor.

5. i need to learn the art of mixing

now coming to fun projects

I love doing harmonies… wud be wonderful to work on a song that is harmony focussed…

its fun to work with my muziboo friends on duets and originals. will continue doing so.

I had never trusted my hindi before i posted a song in muziboo. certainly want to improve my pronunciations and work on more hindi numbers.

Looking fwd to ur valuable suggestions…

Hey Tara, I love your voice. You would really get bored my telling you this nth time. Here is a chance for me to write another testimonial. You are naturally very expressive and give the right feeling needed at right places. I love ur high range and low range(BJ’s) songs, mid range ofcoz s so easy for you. The negatives you have mentioned are not visible to the end listener. I wish I had come here a little earlier, because ur recent ‘urugudhe’ disappointed me. Its surely worth a redo.
Your presentation of a song is very neat. I guess you are too careful about that. It makes the listener feel you are perfect esp in high ranges, irrespective of how many hrs u took to record a line n so on… I cannot think of many songs you went wrong or find flaws as most of the songs rendered were so good. I heard almost all the songs of urs after becoming ur fan.
About listening, I would definitely suggest you to listen to a lot of music. I would prefer radio to i pod if there is a choice, since variety of songs reach ur ears and there is lot of scope to listen different genres of music. I am missing chennai radio stations. I became a great listener after muziboo came into my life, It is also like a radio right, where you get good music, variety, innovation and wat not. you get to know the people behind the music too.
I would suggest you to sing some Maestro’s numbers sung by sujatha/chitra. Guess they wud suit your voice the best. ‘Podhum ramya, aaLa vidu’ nu solra madri irukku, ok let me stop here.
Keep treating us with your lovely voice. All the best Tara.

Cheers:)
Ramya
