First of all thanks to George for starting this discussion. Atleast now I get to analyse my strengths and weaknesses otherwise have never taken music serious. i am classically trained for more than 10yrs. I had no choice but to attend classes then:) I am very passionate abt singing. Shud thank Kumaran for pulling me into this wonderful place with so many talented ppl. I have made very good friends too and have improved a lot as a singer.
Here goes my analysis.
+
1. Have a good voice.i usually go for the songs i like and don’t see if that will suit my voice or not…
2. my range is pretty wide… I can do songs like mar jaavan, bombay jayashree songs which r low and songs like mundhinam, sundari that r pretty high.
3. I have certainly improved my expressions after joining muziboo.
4. i rely on my hard work when it comes to doing a song… i sometimes sing a line for hrs untill i am satisfied…
5. my sruthi sense is pretty fine… haven’t had much complaints so far:) i myself cant listen to my singing off pitch
-ve
1. I am a very poor listener… I hardly listen to songs… thats a major draw back and tend to go wrong in selecting songs. infact i wud have listened to more covers than originals after joining muziboo:)
2. my lyric sense is very poor. i always concentrate on the tunes and variations and am lost when it comes to lyris.
3. i take a lot of time to record a song. infact envy george when he says he recorded a song in 10mins :)
4. my timing sense is poor.
5. i need to learn the art of mixing
now coming to fun projects
I love doing harmonies… wud be wonderful to work on a song that is harmony focussed…
its fun to work with my muziboo friends on duets and originals. will continue doing so.
I had never trusted my hindi before i posted a song in muziboo. certainly want to improve my pronunciations and work on more hindi numbers.
Looking fwd to ur valuable suggestions…

Tara,
Great writeup. I thought your assessment was very good. I think your biggest assets are your voice and your drive to attain perfection. I would have to say that among all the people I have worked with, you work the hardest! From a range perspective, I think your low and mid range are stronger than your upper range. While you can hit all the high notes, you dont seem as expressive or as comfortable at the higher end of your scale. I guess if you sing more high pitched songs, you will improve. I agree with Murali that you normally pick songs that are fit for your voice. However I know that you are not afraid to experiment and work out of your comfort zone (for instance Tere Mere Milan, Phirse, Mundhinam etc). Also you are one of the few people on muziboo that I know who UNDERSTANDS harmonies. I really appreciate that.
In terms of improvement, I think the main areas are timing and breath control. I think you struggle with that in all your songs. I think your upper range could get better with practice. Your mixing is definitely above average as per muziboo standards, but it could get better. Expressions are good now, but can get better.
All in all, I wanna say that you are one of my favorite female vocalists on muziboo and I’ve always enjoyed working with you. Hope to work on a lot more in the future!! Keep up the great work!
-George

Tara,
You self assessment looks pretty accurate to me. Agree with George that your voice fits low/mid range songs better. Your biggest asset is your ability to evoke expression in your renditions. So your claim that lyrics sense is poor does not seem valid.
I for one have enjoyed working with you on the couple of duets we have done together. You put in a lot of effort and strive for perfection.
Keep up the good work and keep posting songs.
-Kumar.

Your self-analysis is pretty neat. I would like to add that you concentrate mainly on songs which appear ‘easy’ for you. I mean when I get a message saying :
“Tara has uploaded this song abcd”,
it immediately makes me feel
“oh abcd dhaanE…sure, tara can deliver it easily”.
Very rarely do I get the feeling
“oh abcd ? How would Tara have sung this ?”
That is even though you have the ability to deliver songs like cheeni kum, you seem to favor “yaaro manadhile”. In other words, you can choose some more challenging songs and come on top. For e.g. u could try some sunidhi chauhan’s songs like “chaliya chaliya”. Your singign and voice are an absolute delight. So it woudl be a fun exercise and I am sure people who love your voice (like yours truly) would flock.
