Rasatti Onna - Cover
Rasatti Onna - Cover Lyrics & Chords
Music is worship and Ilaiyaraja is the presiding Deity. Little wonder he is called Isai Gnyani (the Knower of Music).
In this song, he brings the Western classical and South Indian rustic accents together and dazzles us with his melody, so full of character and depth. He uses the odd time signature of 3×4, which is popular as Waltz in the Western classical music. Of course, there are many other ways of playing 3×4 time signature but he sticks to the Classical and maintains it throughout the song.
In the original track, Jayachandran lends his soothing/romantic voice, which has been aptly exploited by Ilaiyaraja for Vijaykanth in this movie and many other movies. I wish Jayachandran had sung many more songs. But I am glad the the little Maestro AR Rahman gave him songs to sing in some of the recent movies.
I believe I can in no way do justice to this classic number. I have sung it for my vicarious pleasure, that’s all. It’s a very difficult number – especially the ‘onna’ in ‘rasatti onna’ in the opening line, has a fast phrase of notes, which if not sung properly, will make the song sound flat.
The high quality Karaoke track was provided by Adarsh Ranjith. Thanks so much! Visit:

Arun, I hope you remember me from the Ilayaraja orkut community.
That’s a really amazing rendition. Your voice sounds a bit classical though, in a carnatic way. It is amazing how Jayachandran has sung this number with so much brihas and yet sounding so light.
Please post more.

Srihari.

Yes, I messed up the lyrics. And I did not have the gall to try it again. :-( I like your helpful pointers.

Your rendition was like drinking a cup of hot coffee and sipping icecold tea in betweeen! Oru classcal briga (kaanaatha nenju) appram oru light one (polaaduthu) appram….neethaanamma(icetea) then (thatthi thavazhum(coffee)….ippdiye…. :D
Nallaa thaan irunthuthu but difficult for purists (both sides) to accept. Whatever it is, your brigas are just awesome and your voice is so unadulterated. Count me in as your fan, Sir! :D

Your ‘Naadham ezhunthathadee’ has brought me here… :-) Nice to know that you are also from IR-Community in Orkut… But not sure of which one as there are a few… Am one of the moderators there… :D And this is an immortal number by IR-Jayachandran, as given in ur write-up rightly exploited by Vijaykanth’s presence in the frame… :D Your brihas are awesome and think they get cascaded in all ur renditions having patented to ur throat… ;-) Cine-light songs definitely need a perfect proportion of feel and nuances with adherence to all the technical parameters… An extra spoon of feel fed to this rendition would have made this a sheer treat…. And pertaining to your voice in this rendition, a lil sharpness would have brightened the vocals… Would look for all your ensuing renditions… Good Luck….
Thanks & Regards,
RAJ

Hey Arun, Good going. You’ve put your classical training to full use. I enjoyed some of ur intricate sangathis.
Ana, for this particular song, for my taste, it could have been a lil less classical -nu thonithu.Les chat offline.
