Maestro Ilaiyaraaja's Partha Vizhi - Raga Paavani - Improvs
Maestro Ilaiyaraaja's Parth... Lyrics & Chords
Imrprovs on the famous song based upon a rare 7 note raga called Paavani. It has eerie sounding chromatic notes in the scale. So elaborating on it is usually avoided at best.
Of course Maestro has mastered it and presented in a way, that is open to more exploration and learning.
And in rendering this, I probably have invented my own lyrics.

Nice!! I really liked your initial aalaapanai TNA… very tastefully done. I felt the main lyrics could have done with more feel- konjam disjointed-a irundha maadhiri oru feeling irundhadhu ( as in the flow)- my 2c :)
Cheers,

Arun:
A couple of things:
- Treating Ri2 as Gandharam and singing as if its second nature.
- Kalpana swaram in kanda chaapu…
(Having successfully attempted an Alapana on 5/8 Keeravani, I was expecting this… )
With such distinguished realms becoming mere bag of tricks for you, it signals your metamorphosis…
Especially the final flourish of gradual ascent note by note. And the landing on thara Sthaai Ma2 at 5:47 exhibited panache… That was fantastic.
Anticipation in me was palpable when the impending finish approached at
sgrs ni dha pmp
rsnd pa ma ga r
sndp ma ga rsr
dns ri ga ma pm…
With 3 different patterns for these 4 cycles, I wasn’t sure what you were upto… (At least I am used to only similar constructs like grsnd rsndp gmpdn Saa for example)
When Paartha vizhi landed on Samam I was grinning from ear to ear… (although for instance a, rsnd pa ma ga rg for second cycle would have been more symmetrical…? but what the heck, this is your kalpana swaram).
This is indeed heady stuff man… Keep going…
With Love
Vicky

Thanks Theagaraj ayya, Hari Bhaskar sir, Meera, Murali, Kumar, Vishak, Latha and Surendra for stopping by and for your kind comments.
Raja Mani, your calling to wish me was a great gesture of musical camaraderie. My heartfelt thanks again.
Vicky…in fact, I was not sure either as to what I was upto with the pattern of notes. :-)) Great observations and pointers both online and offline. Learning the Tyagaraja composition in Chandrajyothi (janyaa of Paavani) helped me approach this effort with confidence. Otherwise, it was trepidation all along. The janyaa lacks only N3, but has the vivaadi content intact.
There are some general nuances of note movements for such vivaadi ragas, especially the wat in which St. Tyagaraja has composed in them. That was quite an eye opener for me.
I have the audio clip of the class session where I learned the Chandrajyothi composition from Savita. I will post some portions of it sometime.
Cheers!

Ippdi ellaam paadinaa enna comment poada mudiyum!!! :) En sittrarivirkku ettiya varai- PoLandhu kattitteenga! The aalaap and swarams were brilliant and almost like a mini lesson.
I learnt “Bhaagaayanayya” a few years ago and was almost convinced that this song is Chandrajyothi. “Paavani” is news to me- will not try to understand the difference- puriyanume!!! :D
Seeing Vignesh comment above….etho parama gnyaanasthar polirukku- amazing knowledge too! I am sure he is a fabulous singer. Hope to hear a song from him too sometime soon. :)

Appdi sollittu, oru vandi comment ! :-)
Baagaayanayya is a fabulous composition in Chandrajyothi. That’s what I have learnt too. Shashi vadana is somehow less “ominous” sounding than the former.
As for Vicky goes…
You must have heard about a gentleman called Subbudu…;-))
I will let Vicky answer your call. :-)
Cheers!
