Siva Siva Ena Radha - Thyagaraja kiruthi
Siva Siva Ena Radha - Thyag... Lyrics & Chords
I have great pleasure to sing this mesmerizing composition by Shri Thyagaraja in the raaga Banduvarali. Thanks to Mrs.Shyamala who asked me to post more karnatic kiruthis in my blog. And I dedicate this song to her.
Song : Siva Siva
Ragam: Panthuvarali
Talam: Adi
Composed & written by : Shri Thyagaraja
Rendered by : Sowmya
Meaning of the song according to
(TK Govinda Rao’s book)
Mortals ! Why do you not rid yourselves of the trials and tribulations of life by chanting the name of SIVA repeatedly ?
Root out KAMA-lust and other vile infections on the mind, eschew the desire for women and other’s wealth, rid yourself of ignorance and worship Siva with Bilva leaves
Associate with righteous men, regard them as gods and not giving any room to any shyness, worship Siva in the lotus of your heart with abandon and chant the holy name of Siva
Chanting the VEDAs, extol the Lord.
Avoid all fruitless talk and in the company of noble devotees, indulge in chanting the name of the Lord and singing His glory. Knowing that SIVA is the Lord whom this TYAGARAJA bows down to chant, the name of SIVA eternally!

Grear singing Sowmya… Loved it all the way…
I appreciate you for uploading this. Very few off pitch notes were felt…Not at all major… pointing out just as you have nothing else to take care of otherwise….

Very soothing and cool rendition of a great carnatic composition. It is interesting that you have provided the meaning for the song. Very well sung Sowmya….I would have loved to hear this with pakka vaadhyam and in your well cultivated voice.
It is great that you have shown your depth in music by rendering this. It is not easy to sing such songs without real talent and I think this is to be commended a lot in you. You have shown how you can traverse between classical and light in your own unimitable style. It also tells us that you have great range in your voice to deliver from bass to high pitch.
My best wishes and that was awesome.

You got an awesome voice, you have rendered this krithi very well. I am glad that you have posted something so classical, its hard to find such songs now. I appreciate your efforts. Keep singing more such numbers.

Good singing Sowmya. Felt that the kaalapramanam could be a bit faster. Especially enjoyed the Paamarathvamu line.

You have sung gracefully . Liked ur voice a lot in this one. Nalla control over ur voice. Slightly pitchy at lower notes, avlodhan.
Cheers:)

I am typing this as I listen. Good raga rendition. Once again minor mistakes (e.g. the subtle creeping of M1 at 2:50).
It is a bane in carnatic music that clear pronunciation in sahityam never gets as much importance as it should. After all, if sahityam was not important it would not have been written in the first place ! There are only a few exceptions like the Great BMK and MSS who concentrate on sahityam’s clarity as much as ragam and a host of other parameters like swaram, etc. Even greats like TNS and some newer generation singers like Sanjay Subramanyam seem to have an utter disregard for the lyrics.
The reason why I brought this up is because one fo the things Ihave laways lilked in your songs (I listen to your tamil mostly) is crystal clear pronunciation. that however seems to have been lost in this song a little bit. For example the first “Om” at 0:20. I hope you will ensure better clarity in syllables in carnatic renditions too.
