A carnatic twist to PS’s version in “Maragale MalarungaL” I guess! :D
Although I did like your rendition, I probably am one of the very few people in this earth who does not like this tune. I remember a very long argument I had with Murali.V once as to why I liked Hariharan’s version way better than Susheela’s. The tune just did not set the mood for me, unfortunately. :(
Nevertheless, a very thoughtful post in memory of the Mahaakavi! :)

I second Adithi’s opinion about the tune….In my opinion ,the soul of the song(in this case the amazing lyrics by the great mahakavi) should be preserved in the tune …what is the point of the tune if it cannot convey the mood of the song to the listener?Technically you may have sung this song correctly but it failed to touch my heart!
Nevertheless appreciate your intention in remembering the great Bharathiyar!

Thanks much for listening it and for your views shared here ! As for as the tune is concerned, I learnt this from my music teacher at my school and I just love this song for its tune and ofcourse for the awesome lyrics by my Bharathi ! Whatever is in any way beautiful has its source of beauty in itself, and is complete in itself; praise forms no part of it. I strongly believe this and especially this song has different tunes and I think hariharan’s song was done by ARR, which is the latest one and been popular because it was from the movie. The core idea of the song is expressing the desire of love to his gal , and the different compositions for this song composed by many had different styles, Maharajapuram sandhanam sung this song in a different style and MLV adopted a different one. I liked these peoples tunes than Hariharan’s. Probably, you have to open a bit to listen to more to know different adaptation of composition for this song !A very receptive state of mind….not unlike a sheet of film itself -seemingly inert, yet so sensitive that a fraction of a second’s exposure conceives a life in it.

This tune is not a carnatic one but indeed a movie song (Movie: Malargale MalarungaL; Music:Gangai Amaran).
One should not be choosy, I agree, in the type of songs to listen to. But the mind will still have a preference to repeatedly choose what is appealing to it. This choice is heavily influenced by a variety of factors as taste, state of mind, values- the list goes on. So, I have listened to many of the above versions but still have a preference for Hariji’s.
So inda paattu nallaa illainnu sollalai. Enakku pidikkalainnu thaan sonnen! :D. You have done justice to the tune as is- adayum sonnen. :D

Thanks sowmya for rendering this awesome poem. I am still clueless as how this prodigy has given us poems which sink with life so perfectly. Its a curse to this nation(IMO) for not having treasured this poetic genius.
And about the tune of this song, I don’t think only Hariharan’s tune is so captivating. As you have said that u have learnt it from your music teacher, that should have haunted ur mind for so long and forever. Am I right? When we imbibe things during our early days of learning something seriously, that would surely be perennial. And I think, Hariharan’s version of this song is liked by all since it was from a movie with a strong star-cast and astounding sound tracks. I personally feel the effort is to be applauded not minding the tune. Anyways I am a novice, rather a dumb music lover with a quench to listen to songs of all genre without preset mind. So I can’t compare the tunes and the respective impact on the listeners. But to be honest, I liked this rendition very much and a royal salute for substantiating your versatility yet again. Kudos.

Adhithi, Thanks for the information, this could be from a movie but i learnt it from my teacher and no way the tune is inferior to ARR’s composition ,I just want to insist that !
As you mentioned in your previous comment,“I probably am one of the very few people in this earth who does not like this tune” – I just gave my point of explanation for this in my reply to you and Sudhathee
One more thing to add here – People have various taste and various views about a song ! When somebody render a song which is not at ur taste, until otherwise you found some error or some improve areas to mention, please go on with the comment about it. A tune is a tune, either you may not like it and others may fond of that ! If you project more your dislike about the tune or lyrics in the comment, then the necessity needed here to point out my views about it !

Sowmya:Who said that the tune is inferior?Unfortunately in this world people have different tastes…Even the best of musicians in the world have critics. There is no point in feeling hurt/arguing with someone who doesnt share your point of view….you must try and understand that we cannot TEACH others “how to enjoy music”!Each one has a different perspective…!
All of us are amateurs…we need to be open to positive/negative feedback. I am sure you will agree with me!All the best!
