Murali— such a serene feeling to listen to your voice this afternoon :) I liked the way you handled your brighas throughout, very polished I would say.
Couple of things I noticed: Andha in the pallavi ( first time around ) was not bang on the note I think and 4.35 was off as well :D Higher registers were strained but this is not an easy scale, so……………. ;-) Liked your slight notational improvs in the pallavi— very very nice
Meena— probably one of your best vocals until now. Very nice.
You should sing more covers Murali, it’s a nice change from composing— don’t need to think as much LOLLLL

That was a really beautiful rendition.
Murali: You sounded awesome. Expressions were beautiful
Meena: You voice suits the song very much. Concentrate on the pitching, coz there were some slight issues (1:10, nuances at 2:05). You have a beautiful voice.
George, as usual, excellent mixing

Meena it would have been your best if the last humming was sang properly……you lost the anchor of the song there…otherwise very nise singing meena…….that high note was courageous and I can see you strain singing that. Murali thanks you opening your doors for singing and rendering in muziboo. Your sang it in your own way which is very commendable……couple of of notes here and there like nuzhaindhadho …. you have touched that Ni1 at comfortable ease at "thandiyum "…hats of man……… It would have been nice if you have sang that jathi" theem thana nana"nice singing ,
keep them coming,
Maruthi

This song had a few high notes which did stretch me (and Meena) out. Thanks to all pointers and words of encouragement.
Meera : thanks for the pointers. I did hear them even earlier but just was too tired from the high note singing to “punch in”.
Maruthi : nuzaindhadhO satru kuzaindhadhO ? :)

I am very familiar with this song and the movie…and I really liked your rendition.
Murali ….you have a very nice soothing voice….really liked your expressive singing.
Meena ….Very nicely sung ….felt a couple of minor offs…… a prominent flat note at 1.10….but other than that you were very good.
Mixing wise I thought Murali’s vocal volume was a little lower than yours.
Full stars from me ….keep it up.

Nicely sung Murali and Meena.
Murali, have not heard you sing in a long time – this was a very pleasant listen. Apart from a couple of minor off notes and the issue Subbu mentioned about delivery of nooraandugal in one breath, this is an awesome effort. Feel and expressions are the high point.
Meena, very nice voice with good range – few pithy portions but overall very nice rendition. The last humming could be better.
George, great mix.
Enjoyed this a lot.

ok now that i have listned to the full song … this is what i feel … meena was almost perfect….apart from the last humming…where she could have made it 100% perfect … :)
Murali…u were very good in the starting…that compelled me to write the above comment…as many others have pointed out …. u were just off pitch according to me in 2-3 places … the feel was really great ….full points for mixing ….
and i really dont want to get in to the debate of chaaral vs saaral … saaral might feel better as it is more used in Tamil these days (sadly though ;) )
cheers
Prasanna :)

Hi Murali and Meena … it was nice to hear this blockbuster song from you guys.
Murali … I liked your version much better than Udit Narayan on the pronounciation, with the exception of “Saaral” which you pronounced as “Chaaral”. Your voice is soft, melodious and uniquely refreshing!. Singing-wise, I felt some joining places could improve like “Pookal – Poothadho”. Expressions and improvs were nice but some slight wavering of pitch was there. The last time you sang that high note of “thaandiyum vaazhumidhu” was very good. On style, your melodic style for this song was better hearing than Udit Narayan’s ‘phonetic energy’!. Mind you Udit’s energy was good for the movie visuals which was awesome in this song. Your voice mix was nice and overall great job. Hope to hear more!.
Hi Meena … nice job too and your voice sounded good in this song, unlike previous unclear renditions. Well done on that!. In fact your vocal volume could have been a bit lower. You sang well but needed a bit more expression and better accuracy with pitch, especially in Aalaaps. Overall well done Meena.
On a general note, I feel this song would have been a flop but for Chinmayi’s voice and interpretation. She was awesome in this song with her expressions and whispering breathy style. At a time when it was unimaginable to break into tamil playback singing, Rehman introduced many new singers who could not speak the language (referring to Udit here) … commendable as well as lamentable!. I pity the lyricists who write such good lines, only to be butchered totally!. It’s the ways of the world these days, so we are used to it!. :-)
I stumbled across this blog site of Chinmayi which was interesting but not sure whether it is being updated now!.

Thanks guys for that treat!.

Thanks to all who have given their comments and opinions.
Arvind :
There is always a debate as to which is right. In my knowledge, indigenous tamil words do not have the sound “sa”. chaaral is one such word. however loan words from other languages like sanskrit do have that sound. example sorgam. I always tend to say the ‘indigenous’ tamil words with the letters available in tamil and the ones borrowed form other language using the pronunciation that is compatible with them.

Meena/Murali:
Thanks for making it downloadable without which I would not have been able to listen to this song. Well sung. Meena, your voice is very sweet and I particularly liked “saaral thoovudho” – sounded just like the original. you were out of breath for the line towards the end of charanam but it just needs a little more practice to correct that. Overall very nice and keep singing.
Murali, well done. It is a tough song considering the high range and you did a great job. One small correction – it should have been noorayiram aandugal thandiyum vazhumidhu instead of oorayiram aandugal thandiyum….
Great job guys. Looking forward to hearing more.

Uthra:
Yes that was indeed a mistake. thanks for the correction.

Meena & Murali,
Nice pick of song. Murali, as Aravind said you are far better than Udit in this song, bcoz of your command over language and singing talent.
Both of you are brilliant in this song with your expression and feel. Mixing is just perfect, so nice to listen. Kudos to both of you. … full stars to you both. 5/5

Murali – You have sung this beautifully!! Loved ur voice in this one throughout! The high notes were handled beautifully! To be honest, I hate to listen to the original cos of the choice of the male singer… I MUST admit that you sang this better than the original! Loved it!
Meena – You have sung this well too… There were a few off notes… This apart you have sung with great feel and expressions too! Loved the Ooo…oooo… at the end… :)
