Smitha great song pick ….beautiful attempt at a master piece. The problem with covering such renditions is that people know these inside out. …but you have done a marvelous job covering it. I loved the singing, you did great justice to the original. The feel of “Aise rimjhim” could have been better ….thats the most beautiful line in the entire song in my perspective. Overall it was a great attempt.
Full stars from me ….keep singing such classics

I can sense a tremble due to veneration through out since you put yourself under a constant self-surveillance. And every artist does that when he or she attempts a timeless classic.
Your open throated singing is a plus. And your uncertainty in many places is a big minus (example pyaar laayi at 3:05). And smitha, why are you just ‘singing’ the song ?! You must ‘feel’ it ! when you ‘sing’ it, you are a mere instrument. When you feel it you will enjoy it and happiness, as it is often said, permeates and pervades and multiplies when it is shared. And to bring that magic, you need more curves in the connecting notes.

Hi Smitha, this was one of the first songs I attempted on my blog. What I really liked about your rendition was that it was very open throated. I think you reduced the scale to suit your range and that worked in your favor. Agree with Murali that there could be more feel. Nevertheless, really appreciate this attempt of such a tough song and I think you did a very good job of it!

Murali – Ur right abt the self-surveillance part :-) It makes me nervous to attempt such a classic. Thanks for all the feedback! Will surely work on the feel and on being more confident of the notes.
Sindhuja – Thanks for listening. I actually did not compare the scale with the original when I sung it. Did that after reading your comment and you are right abt it :-) I am glad u liked my attempt!

Hi Smitha,
I just heard this rendition.
I was terribly impressed with your voice!.
You have a sweet and strong voice; also you have pretty good breath capactiy. No basic problems whatsoever!. Only way is up for you!.
Excellent rendition that is on par with any stage performance. However, please take the following points on board for betterment.
Here are my improvement comments:
- You need to loooosen up your singing … you can do wonders with that voice if you just let it hang out a bit more rather than on a tight harnass. Probably a bit tense? I do not know!.
- You have excellent breath capacity but breath control is another matter!!. I can certainly sense that you have lots of breath reserves; in fact you tend to overuse this abundance and find yourself short because you failed to take a proper break. The phrase “tere hi khwab me kho gaye" (2nd Anthara I think) is so critical to this lovely composition and you didn’t have enough breath to meat out the notes properly there … you know why? because you failed to take a breath break just before that … as simple as that!.
- yes there are a few issues in places like “nindhiyana aaye” (ending of anthara) where the notes should enunciate downwards with lovely slides to finish it. This tells me one thing … you are unaware of proper planning on the details and you rely on your innate talent to cover up such places, which by the way is not an obvious error … but you need to pay attention to detail to effect proper embellishments and finishes. We are all guilty of this …. so don’t worry!.
This is an excellent self attempt which is extremely commendable … not many can do this sitting at home I can tell you that!.
Very sound talent displayed.

Hi Arvind
Thanks a lot for listening! This is probably the most detailed analysis I have received on any post and I really appreciate you taking time to write this one! U have nailed the problems for me and it is definitely going to help me a lot to improve my future renditions. I will work on every point u mentioned and hopefully u will see a difference in future :-) Thanks a ton again!

Smitha….done a good job…enjoyed….good recording and mixing too. Only thing I feel is that the sangathis could have been better in many places…It seems like there is lack of control in rendering sangathis. For e.g in paallavi….barkha bahar ayi…it seems like it flows without a control…its more like rushing to sing those specific things.I think you can easily sing it properly…be patient and be careful…thats all…
Warm Regards,
Murali Ram

A little late ehn :)
Tough song to attempt, kudos for trying this in the first place. Weird progression of notes here and there Smitha, so you need to give yourself a big pat for trying this out
- nice, nice :)However, that being said, a little feel and curves in most of the sangathis ( dunno what it is known in Hindi :D) would do wonders. Just a suggestion :-)
