(Revised) Pukarta Chala Hoon Main - Cover By Shreedhar
(Revised) Pukarta Chala Hoo... Lyrics & Chords
Hi Friends
This song always brings back fond memories from my first show at Shanmukhananda Hall Mumbai, singing to a full audience of over 2000, as a college student of SIES College, Sion, back in 1984.
Pukarta Chala Hoon Main was my hallmark song repeated several times over at several inter-Collegiate competitions and helped me establish my singing credentials. Following Mohd Rafi Sahab’s hit songs at the time was a passion as I tried to emulate the mellifluous singing style along with the very many beautiful expressions in various moods.
Decades have passed, and having now met up past friends on social networks, some of my dear friends remembered and asked for a rendition again – in addition to my dear wife Ranjana. I have tried to do justice to this beautiful O P Nayyar song from the movie Mere Sanam.
For higher fidelity at 320kbps, download the song and listen.
As always feedback is most welcome.
Shreedhar

Absolute toe-tapping pick, Shreedhar, and very well-sung. If I may nitpick, at places, you could have given a lazy and sharp throw, to add to the nasha… This is a perfect song for an OP Nayyar Nite!

Thanks very much Kumar, NVK Sir, and RK – Much much appreciated.
Kumar, that was actually my first performance at the Shanmukhananda Hall which at the time was a premier destination to perform at – sorta like The Forum in LA. I had been doing stage performances a few years earlier to that from school days but nothing to match the experience of doing it at Shankmukhananda Auditorium.

Shreedhar Ji, Kya gayki hai aapki. I talk from a personal experience having covered it long time back – not very good:). Its a difficult song and the expressions are very tough to potray. You did it superbly and your voice is to die to for with perfect signing talent. I could just see you in the song and no Rafi Saab which was a big big THUMBS UP for me.

Thanks a lot Saqib bhai, Rahul and Uthra. Rahul you are right about rendering this songs expressions and nuances not being that easy. In fact many Rafi hits are of this ilk – they are easy on hearing but deceptively hard to get some of the nuances and expressions – that is of course why Rafi Sahab was such a legend. Thanks for your kind comments.

Hi Shreedhar Sir!
This is one of my favs from Rafi Saab… Such a soothing melody this… Love this song a lot… :)
You have sung it really well! For some reason when i read ur writeup i remember my college days singing as well… :)
Lovely singing… Just one thing I wanted to chk with you… Was the shiver in your voice intentional or is it a natural one in your voice you had when recording this? Cos I have never found tht in any of your renditions tht I have heard… Anyways a great one sir! :)
All the very best!

Thanks Sushanth for your faving it and for your feedback – did you mean the vibrato at some places ? Listening closely to most of the lighter, softer Mohd Rafi songs, the vibrato is an expression used in many places – its the same here as I tried to follow the style although with sensitive condenser mics of today the vibrato is more pronounced and clear :-)
Let me know if it is distracting – I will try to control the delivery of those.
Much appreciate your feedback.
