Viraley Geet Kase (Marathi Cover)
Viraley Geet Kase (Marathi ... Lyrics & Chords
One of Mohd. Rafi Sahab’s soulful Marathi Ghazals. Shrikant Thakareji’s composition is very enjoyable with a different, amazing, tune for every antaraa.
Vandanaji’s touching poetry is tailor made for Rafi sahab. It’s so well written that I could not resist temptation to translate it line by line within my limited English-ability and share for enjoyment of my non-Marathi speaking friends.
I would like to dedicate this humble attempt to all of my non-Marathi friends having soft-spot for Marathi Bhavgeet………
Special thanks to Harshan bhai for a preview-review!
Lyrics and English Translation:
VIRALE GEET KASE, ZAALI MANAACHI SHAKALE,
(How (my) song has departed and my mind shattered)
MEE DISHAAHIN AATAA SAARE SAHAARE MITALE ||0||
(I am directionless now as all supports have vanished)
GAAILE GEET KADHEE PHULAVEET BASANTEE NAATE,
(Some times songs(I) sang flourished our vivid relationship)
VIZALE SUR ATAA NAYANAAT KHULI AAS JALE ||1||
(But now as the notes been put out, naive craving is ablaze in (my) eyes)
GAHIREE YAAD TUZI MOHARATE KHOL MANI,
(Your profound memory keeps blossoming from the depths of my mind)
VISARU, HAAY, VISARU HAAY KASE, TE ISHAARE SAGALE ||2||
(How, alas how possibly, can I forget all those loving gestures?)
NAVHATAA DOSH TUZAA SHAPIYALE MEECH MALAA,
(It wasn’t your fault…I was the one who cursed my own self)
VIRALYAA DHAAHEE DISHA DOOR KINAARE LAPALE ||3||
(The distant coast, too, has disappeared now as all the directions have vanished around me)
Original singer: Mohd. Rafi
Music: shrikant Thakare
Lyricist: Vandana Vitankar

Ati Uttam gayaki, Adwait! I had to listen to this song a few times in a loop to savor all the nuances. The classic Rafi touch was in it with your own stamp too… The harkat at Basanti Naate is to die for!
Loved and fav’ed!

This is the first Marathi ghazal I have ever heard(I think) and I enjoyed it, immensely.
You did keep Rafi Sahab-style very well. Providing the translation was an excellent idea.
My favorite line(in your voice)….
VISARU, HAAY, VISARU HAAY KASE, TE ISHAARE SAGALE
(How, alas how possibly, can I forget all those loving gestures?)
