A Boatman's song Lyrics & Chords
Kabeer, a close friend of mine in the Middle East who is also a talented singer wanted a few songs for a video album. He specifically wanted a boatman’s song. I was also fascinated by the numerous boat songs in malayalam and hindi such as ‘Kalakalam kaayalolangal’, ‘O Majheere’ etc. Inspired by these songs that I always loved, I composed a boat song for Kabeer. This is a romantic song with the usual melancholic undertones in most boat songs. Kabeer himself sang this song.

The song as such is a brilliant composition. But when you categorize it as a boatman song,it didn’t appeal to me much :-) The lyrics were super, singing awesome. The initial humming was superb, but if you see the humming coming after pallavi its abrupt. But only the humming I could relate to boatman song.
In short the song I liked as a beautiful soulful romantic song and not as a boatman song :-)

I started to write from the very first sounds!Yes, I can imagine the boatman sailing under moon!s light,far from his beloved,loving the freedom given by sea and at the same time eager to go home as soon is possible!I am sure the lyrics are as wonderful as the music is!No doubt/goes to fav!

kabeer has got a wonderful voice….nice singing……….
but i think the tempo might hav been a little low….
’cause, i felt, with the fast notes it slightly gives a sort of festive mood….
i think a lower tempo might have suited the lyrics.
its just my humble opinion……pls take it that way…

Absolutely loved Kabeer’s voice! The tune was very catchy.
Couldn’t visualise it as being sung by a boatman but by someone else on the beach with the boatman in the background.
I loved your usage of classical tunes, Rajeev. Would be nice to see all your songs picturised. :)

Meena-Thank you for your comments. I initially thought of reducing the tempo, but finally decided that the melancholy be subdued and present as an undercurrent.

Sorry for being late! As Rahul mentioned, I was deceived seeing the boat man’s song title and didnt feel like visiting immediately. It was such a melodious n classical composition. ‘boat song’ was evident from the rhythm! Brilliant vocals by Kabeer!

Nice tune and Kabeer’s voice was like KJY’s in so many places. Lovely voice. Some expressions were not so clear (based on the description of the song).
Didn’t have a chance to guess the raaga as I saw it mentioned in one of the comments. :(.
This being a boatman song, I also felt a slower tempo would have suited it better. Flute was nicely used.

Very nice composition. I could easily actually visualize this as a boatman’s song. The only thing was that at 2:24 and also 4:02 the beats seemed slightly irregular (a mixing artifact probably).
