Memory is the diary that a man carry about, with him and its up to him to keep it affluent or bankrupt… I have always registered many occurrences of my past in my sub-conscious registry unconsciously and when I happen to listen any bit of music or any song, things get flushed out of my memory-chest, thus recalling my past… I can never forget this song in my life… ‘Thaniye Thannanthaniye’ from Rhythm, rendered by Shankar Mahadevan; composed by the Asian Mozart, ARR and penned by Kaviarasu Vairamuthu… I didn’t really count the number of times I used to sing this for my closest pal’s mother who first spotted that I could sing… And I am born with a jinx that whoever I feel so close to my heart would sooner or later vanish from my life… :-) I have missed many such gems in my life till this moment… This goes as a dedication to my buddy Kirushna’s mother, Uma Ganesan and she wanted to see me becoming a professional singer… Not sure if that would happen but am an idiotic optimist who never accepts his defeat and some of the recent experiences I had, have intrigued to take up music seriously… And to start with the proceedings, I come up with this number which has an unassailable scale to attempt… I am well aware that I goofed up at many places and I sincerely request you to bear this pilot-attempt of rendering a song which is out of my comfort zone… The scale is tad higher than the original song which I found while mixing… :-) My throat was not tamed for a long time and stayed nonconforming to my reach for the higher notes… Rendering harmonies is an intricate subject and I sucked… Pls bear with me for these short-comings… I didn’t want to postpone rendering this as I have myself plunged into the pool of memories… Appreciate if you could spare time in listening and commenting that I can improve my singing… Thanks in advance…

Used to have this song, played repeatedly in my car on my drive to work when it became popular. Great attempt at this high pitch song, I know you are familiar with the improvement areas. Just work more on the punch of certain words for songs like this. You have done an extremly good job with this toughie…expecting more such stuff from you !!!

OMG! Raj is that you? A definitely new voice avatar of you altogether – I did enjoy this bold transformed voice of yours. Very confidently delivered. High notes could be smoother, but am sure you know. Btw, this is also done in Hindi – by Daler Mehndi perhaps.

I will say that you are now in the right path.
A singer should be able to sing any kind of songs. Not only melodies….but peppy and also in any range. Even if you go for a show they see the ability of you covering different kinds and that is called talent. I will take this as your baby step. You have done very well and I think more practice will break and bend your voice in to any way. Wish you all the best. Hope to see you cover different numbers like this.
One more thing……Never think that trying high pitch songs will mess up your soft voice. Your voice is still in you and the attitude that changes, in each and every song :)

Bravo! for attempting this one. Apart from originally being a natural toughie, this song is so totally out of your comfort zone, like you mentioned. So kudos.
About the rendition, yeah, nee sonna madiri kutti kutti shortcomings irukku….the most prominent being the strain due to the higher scale. And that lead to very few pitching, and timing issues. But then, it’d take a truly miraculous effort for someone to get this song perfect… :)
But onnu mattum sollu, isn’t it supposed to be ‘Nilame’ everywhere? I thought you’d sung ‘Nilave’ in a couple of places. Vera baaki not much complaints… :) Loved the line ‘Naan jeevan urugi nindren’ in 2nd charanam. Came out very well…:)
