A Tribute to Pt Bhimsen Jos... Lyrics & Chords
An Aristocratic write-up on Late Pt Bhimsen Joshi carved in my block by ‘Nightingale of Muziboo’(Sudha Kumar)
"As a new decade begins and new music is constantly being created, 2011 also marks the end of an era in Indian classical music with the passing away of the Legend of Hindustani classical music, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi.
A descendant-turned doyen of the Kirana Gharana, he was well-known for his mastery over khayals and an expansive repertoire of devotionals (Abhangs and Bhajans).
With rigorous training, riyaaz and exposure to several musical stalwarts, the Maestro had developed a strong fluid voice with an amazing range, and his own distinct singing style of gamaks, express-paced taans and unexpected boltaans, thus keeping the listener glued and enthralled.
Panditji was the most recent recipient of the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, awarded in 2008 and it was quoted “Bhimsen Joshi was ever the wanderer, engendering brilliant phrases and tans more intuitively than through deliberation” While he remained a purist, specializing in complex raags, some of his Jugalbandis like the one with Carnatic vocalist Dr. Balamurli Krishna are well-known.
One popular melody was the National Integration song “Mile Sur Mera Tumhara” in which with his opening delivery into the song, Panditji endeared the whole nation.
We would like to dedicate this wonderful song based on raag Bhairavi as a tribute to Pt. Bhimsen Joshi on this glorious Republic Day of India."
And now my scribblings… This wouldn’t have been possible without Sukumar’s recurrent mails dwelling on this particular collaboration… Thanks Suku… I wish to thank Adithi, Gopi aNNa, Kaushik(Shanks aNNa), Kumarana aNNa, Lavanya, Meena, Revathi, Roshine, Sheba, Subha, Sudha, Sukumar & Vichchu for having completed their portions meeting the time stipulations… This goes out as a Tribute to this legend and at this juncture, I also tender my birthday wishes to our Pradip Sir and Raisudeen… May this day bring the desired change in the functioning of our constitution and help us understand the real meaning of a ‘Republic’…
As always, I sucked at mixing this collaborative effort… Difference in the recording gears is imminent in the mix and I request you all to bear with the inadequacies tagged with this work including the phonetic bungles… Had to sit for 4 hours to try all the possible gimmicks to make this sound reasonably pleasant to listen… Am not sure how it sounds. though… Rest is to be shared by you all after giving this a listen… Will post this again after redressing the glitches… Thanks from the team… Happy Republic Day… Jai Hind…

I am sure if the luxury of sufficient time was available to all of us collaborators, the result would have been definitely far superior… however I can speak confidently on behalf of all in the team that it was it was an honour and a singular privilege to have been part of this project…
