Masakkali-Delhi6
Masakkali-Delhi6 Lyrics & Chords
A.R Rahman has this uncanny knack of coming up with unbelievably refreshing tunes. Delhi 6 has been no exception. Though the film flopped at the box office, the songs have been topping the charts and are exceptionally good. Especially Maula, Gendha Phool, and Masakkali have been on the lips of every youngster. They have a rustic, traditional feel and at the same time a modern approach to the music arrangement. “Mohit Chauhan” who shot to fame with the song “Dooba Dooba” many years back and who was the founder membert of ”Silk Route” was wandering in oblivion with some insignificant songs in Hindi films till “Masakkali” happened. “A.R Rahman” has given him a new life through this song. The song though appears very casual, is by no means an easy song to sing. The song is very catchy due to the strange lyrics and a folkish tune with modern arrangement to the background. Mohit has sung this song exceptionally well. But I should also add that now a days many songs such as this one are just meant for the studio and fail miserably if performed live on the stage. I have seen many attempting this song on stage without any impact.
Song: Masakkali
Film: Delhi 6
Music: A.R Rahman
Original Singer: Mohit Chauhan
Lyrics: Prasoon Joshi

Hello Pradip!!!
Awsome singing…… Beautiful…. I have seen very few singer of your class….very few. You are very gifted & tremendous control over voice….
The main thing I like about you is your versatility in singing just amazing…. Beautiful throw of voice in every songs…. The charm is exactly the same & not to mention awsome mixing aswell…. If someone doesn’t know that Mohit Chauhan has sung this song he/she could fall into the notion that you may be the original singer of the song. Magnificent effort both in singing & in mixing….100/100. Keep it up….
Regards,
Shampak.

Splendid! Excellent! Just felt that it sounded too much like the original……even the voice texture. IMHO a singer of your caliber could add your special personal touch to the song :-) Nevertheless, enjoyed every bit of it! 5/5.

Great attempt… Nicely executed…
- Nice lazy feel in your voice (Did sound much more active than the original sometimes, but no complaints)
- I wish the karaoke was better
- Looks like you recorded this in parts eh?? There was a difference in vocal mixing on few ocassions
- All in all, great work… Keep up the good work… Cheers…

Smitha,Neha- My inspiration in trying this song are my children who are great fans of this song :) I did sing it first with some very prominent variations but at the behest of my children, I had to change it and stick on strictly to the song exactly as in the original :)Some songs are best left as they are……But still if you observe very closely you will find some subtle variations here and there which of course my children would not notice……

Rahul-No need of apologies. Every one is entitled to feel different about anything they hear or see. That’s human nature. But the absolute right is only as what one perceives:)I heard the part “Thadi Se Mud” again and IMHO it sounds ok as far as my knowledge in music is concerned. I also did not understand what you meant by “blend well”. Instead of saying I did not like this part or that part if you can be more specific on the exact technical aspects like pitching, accent, recording aspects etc. it would be easier to understand what you mean and what has to be corrected. Anyway thanks for your observations.

Ramya: thanks……
Subramanian: I have corrected the attitude aspect in the pallavi as you have mentioned.
Rahul: Since I am not the original singer of this song, there will always be a difference in the way that I sing. Every one has his/her own style and individuality and to expect every one to sing ditto as the original and compare a cover version with the original itself is wrong. A cover singer does not have the liberty of having the music director/lyricist etc. before him to correct his/her flaws. He/she even does not have a good studio or a good track. What we singers in Muziboo do is just for a passion. Most of us also are not professional singers and have other jobs. So these limitations should also be taken into account. A good critic always should have adequate knowledge on the subject on what he/she critizises and should be able to pin point out the flaws exactly and not vaguely. Other wise it will not have any effect as criticism should always be to help some one to improve. Not just for the mere sake of it.
Do learn music and try to record and post your songs here. I see that you have not posted any songs in muziboo though you have claimed to be a folk singer. In this process you will learn and understand what I mean. I am very sorry Rahul, but I can be convinced only by pin pointing my mistakes. And when I am convinced, I am a person who respects what the other person says and also do correct my mistakes. I am also a constant learner and by no means an accomplished singer :)

Pradeep Sir,
Thanks a lot Sir. For your valuable advice. My apologies for putting comments in an inappropriate manner. I have deleted all of them. I realize that I am out of place here. But just one thing I wanted to convey sincerely. For me you are a great singer. I have listened to you from when I was a Kid. The TV show Meri Awaz suno had such an impact on me. I really loved the way you sang this song too. All your cover versions are superb. I have not yet sung any songs or uploaded it because I am not able to do it. I just listen to the songs in Muziboo out of passion. Unknowingly I comment. I didn’t think that much as you mentioned. Maybe its because of lack of experience. I will be careful in future. Once again thanking you for your valuable words.

A.J, Kumar: Thank you guys….
Rahul: Do take my replies in the right spirit. I may have some experience and would not mind, but for those who are starters here, sometimes it would crush their enthusiasm in the initial stage itself. You may not have sincerely intended any harm, but sometimes words can have reverse effect. Just take care Rahul. I am a teacher, by profession. So it’s my duty to educate. But do continue to learn music and listen more and more. Then surely you also will be able to upload your songs here soon. I sincerely wish you all the best.

Vamsi, most of the time every one including singers, that includes me have the impression that a classical song with lot of fast sangathis, and going up to very high notes are the most difficult to sing. But this is not true. When you sing in a alien language that’s not your mother tongue or you have not lived with, modulation and style that’s not your natural way of singing, it is tough and not simple. Some times the most simple songs are the most difficult when you actually sing it. In this song the toughest parts are the humming in the beginning and the opening lines. If you sing with too much energy, or not exactly as mohit has sung it, it totally changes the color of the song. And getting the right modulation for that part was very very difficult. That’s why it fails on stage for even the original singer many times. You cannot blame them for that. Some songs are only meant to be recorded, not to be sung on stage live.

Sir,
Actually, i neednt glorify you or your singing…it wil be like adding a handful of soil to sahara desert… you are a well accepted artist, my few words would fall short…
i still remember me n my familiy watching the finals of meri awaz suno( needless to say , with our fingers crossed). There was no doubt abt the female singer, Suneedhi was a undoubtedly the unanimous choice. But your competitor, one Mr. Kishore(that beard fellow) was posing a big threat to you i suppose. My mom was in his team and me in your’s… and finally when Annuji announced your name i was just elated.
So happy to hear so many songs from you here at a strech… keep entertaining us….

Hi Pradip
I haven’t been very active on Muziboo of late due to various personal reasons, but very glad to have discovered your songs here today.
Thumbs up on the singing, I am in agreement with the positive comments given by various listeners already.
I do have one specific suggestion on the track: sounds like you have used the original track after removing the vocals. What seems to have happened is that in the process of subduing the centre track (which has the voice), the bass guitar and the kick drum have been compromised, thereby giving an empty feel to the track in places. IMHO, you could capture the bass kick from somewhere in the track where it is reasonably isolated, sample it and put it BACK in the track wherever it’s gone missing (i.e. wherever the vocals are). The bass guitar might be a bit more tricky to reinstate – playing/sequencing it is an option, though a cumbersome one.
Good job again:)
Cheers
