Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaye (Jurm-1990)

Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaye (Ju... Lyrics & Chords

A simple, beautiful and very meaningful song from the 90’s which captured my imagination when I was doing my P.G at Vizag. I saw the movie and was for ever hooked on to this song. It’s not a tough song or anything of that category, but has been sung with so much of feel by Kumar Sanu and Sadhana Sargam. I am presenting it as a solo.

Song: Jab Koi Baat Bigad Jaye
Film: Jurm (1990)
Music: Rajesh Roshan
Singers: Kumar Sanu & Sadhana Sargam
Lyrics: Indeevar

Pradip Etta,

You have amazed me again. Astounded again how you have adapted the style. Great singing. Loved this one. Goes into my favorites. Kumar Sanu is very good in expressions. But you have expressed it also wonderfully.

Hi Pradip Etta… I was away from blogging for a while, have to catch up with lots of muziboo songs …and first is yours :)

Amazing modulations better than the original. IMHO i missed a ‘Pradip Somasundaram’ touch as you had a heavy influence of Kumar Sanu. I second Aman’s comments above, but personally would like to hear a singer’s own interpretation of the song in all cover versions in the music-blogsphere, like your marvelous rendition of Mayiri-Dastak.(again just my personal preference)

Definitely Goes to my fav!

A lovely brisk romantic dancing song from the 1990s and used to listen to it many times!. Nicely felt and sung Pradip Sir but could have been brisker with a better flow … seemed a bit slowed down and as a result the words did not have that swinging ring to it which is what makes this song a good one in my opinion. Otherwise enjoyed your melodious voice. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you friends for dropping by and your comments are always an inspiration. Rajesh, sometimes I deliberately surrender to the modulation and style of the original singer and just try to live and think and get within the soul of the singer and the song instead of fighting to create my own style. Then only it becomes a sincere attempt or else it always remains protruded as an imitation. Most of the time imitations fail as the only attempt by the singer is to imitate the voice than the soul of the song. I try “to become the original singer” when singing some songs which are already characterized by a heavy style and voice modulation of the original singer which is ultimately the reason for it’s original success. Once you “become the singer” it’s easy to predict how he/she would have sung a part and there you have to use your imagination to fill in as I have done in this song for the parts sung by Sadhana Sargam. In this song “becoming the singer” was very important as I had to sing parts he has not sung originally. That’s why you will find my personal touch limited only to the expressions. When you “become the singer”, there is no limit to how you can improvise on expressions, as then your own talent and imagination come into play. Mayi-Ri was different as I followed both Madan Mohan’s and Lata Ji’s versions. Madan Mohan is more a composer than a singer, so I did not have any influence of style or voice modulation to follow in that song. And Lata ji is of course a a female singer so no chance of following her voice modulation :)
And Aravind- I always sing with the original song track, kept besides the K-track in my Nuendo window to follow the original singer. The original song has the same speed as this karaoke version as this k-track was created by T-Series for the original singer himself for a later Kumar Sanu, collection series :) Since the song has three charanams, it sometimes does feel monotonous without a female voice :)

Radhika pointer noted. And Shampak, yes, every one would have different opinions(as is evident by some other comments on how they felt) and I do respect your views too and have taken them into account sincerely though I did not understand what you meant by short nuances. And since I do not know what to work on I would have to stay with majority opinion on how it sounds as for now. And to be frank, I am not a great K.S fan so ardent K.S fans, please excuse me if I have left out any of his trademark usages :) Just that I like this particular song for it’s words. And Sai, you are right- The tune is a lifted one from the song 500 miles(at least the mukhra is) :)

KJY number sounds like KJY’S(Kannalae Kadhal)SPB number sounds like SPB’S(your ‘duet’ song),Masakali and now this……and while doing this all nuances and more are presented to full awe….to me it sounds some thing beyond humane capabilities….seriously…. pl throw some light and what a talent sir……what a gift from GOD……just amazing……thanks for the wholesome treat.

Pradip! too good to listen. Good goes straight to my fav.

Well, waht i appreciate in you is your creativity, not just singing to the original.
Well, talents are recognized only through discoveries.

In the age of new technology as the old submits to the new – here too though we may imitate the old version – just because we have been listening to it and feel that is the end of it.

I personally feel any new talent has to be given its right share and credit. I am not in favor of comparing with some music legends and their voices and comparing and measuring to pointers and the pitch, etc…… all your technical terms in MUSIC….

Doing something creative is always the capacity of the brain and when HEART and SOUL blends only then their is HEART BEAT in the music else its like a dead heart as per our medical terminology.

Well, I am here for your music and a very few as you know and just keep posting your music.

I am an ardent fan of KJY and had attended many of his live concerts. Your song which I did listen now Kannalae Kadhal, is worthy of all praise.

Only a few are gifted with the talent of changing their voice in to suit the singer.
Thanks for sharing your talent.

Sir – It feels strange to comment on your song, given that you are of such a stature… :) but still. am doin it…. :)

the emotions – excellent!!! your “mera”-s…. for example, in the “tum dena saath mera”…. sound so much like Sanu’s…. and one small thing…. raat , saath, haath…. both have a small “a” at the end which, to Sanu, used to come naturally…. maybe becuase of his benagli origin…. but in your case, became a “bit” pronounced…. “haath” was sounding like “haath-a”….

but as a song, I really believe no one can produce a complete package better than you have here…

My Fav and 5/5….

Azam, Priya- Absolutely right there. We think on the same wavelength.Any singer has to be really talented and has to work hard to impress when you sing an already popular song. Imitating a voice is easy. But it’s not the voice alone that makes the song. You need insight, experience and some thing extra to pass the test. Typical examples are the so called clones, Kumar Sanu, and Sonu Nigaam. If they were mere imitators they would not have reached the heights what they have achieved. When they used to do covers they exactly followed the original singers. But no one would ever say that Sonu’s or K.S’s original songs are not in their styles. They have created their own mark with their unique inborn talents, hard work and positive sides to their singing. When you hear K.S’s or Sonu’s hits you never feel that it’s a Kishore Kumar or Mohd. Rafi singing!

Wow ….really love this piece of discussion very interesting. I have to agree with Azam here, I am not a big fan of copying the original singer, but as long as the soul of the song is kept intact and without much tampering of the original tune….it should be OK. If one wants to sing a song in his or her own style, with much deviation from the original tune … then they should think about a fresh composition. Especially when it comes to old classics, there is not much buffer to come out with your own version or so called variation. Just for the plain reason that the song’s nuances are engraved in the listner;s mind like carving on a rock;-) Pradip, Azam I agree with your stance on this song……if u want to make something of your own ….then cover is not the right place !!! Just my 2 cents worth !!!!!

I suspect my comment above started this discussion and hence I should clarify…I have said how Pradip manages to alter his voice ONLY like that of the original singer while delivering on all other aspects and nothing more nothing less.I thought I was complimenting him!
Dr.Priya-pl re visit my comment above I NEVER COMPARE TWO SINGERS OR TWO COMPOSERS.It is important to avoid any judgement in our comments.
and there is big difference between saying You imitate X and You sound so much like X-Latter is a compliment and former is not, latter is natural and former is artificial.
All that said when an original number is so engraved in a listener’s mind including the nuances-often times I find it very difficult to accept the ‘improvisations’.Only in rare cases the improvisations stay with in the contours of feel, mood and the situation of the song.So in short I totally agree with Azam and it is a separate long discussion

And Pradip-Kudos to you again-Can understand how instinctive you must be to say imitating voices is easy!!!Can agree If some ones voice is sounding like a particular singer-But sounding like 4 different greats on the VOCAL TIMBRE is absolutely awesome and I have not heard any one do that so meticulously. Thanks again!

Subbu.

Murali. Do not know why it does not work. Pls try again. It is surely working from my end :)
Subbu: Thank you so much for the compliments. Fact is that my voice does not sound like any of the other singers when I sing a fresh composition as I do for my own albums. So frankly I do not know how I am able to sound like many different singers when I sing their songs. An there is still another voice left, of Mukesh. You know once when I sang Jane Kahan and Kabhie Kabhie, I had to do many programs just of mukesh as many thought that my voice resembles Mukesh. But thank’s to blogging, i have been able to sing what ever I feel like singing in what ever way I can. Whatever gift we have is not ours. It’s all God’s gift ultimately. We are all just instruments in his hands right??:)

Pradip – The discussion about the anonymous rating
did probe me to check your other posts as well – and its my routine to listen to my music list as and when i get some free time.

THAT IS HOW I RESPECT MUSIC AND EVERY SINGER.

Just wondering as to how this song could be rated 1 and 2 on 5 ?
A person with genuine knowledge and a lover of music will never indulge in such activities.

An act which hurts the singer and also the genuine music lovers a lot… really pains my heart.

Wish there was a way to keep track of the anonymous raters too so that we do know who has played the mischief.

Request every listener to be genuine in rating and in case they need to help the singer let them do so by IDENTIFYING THEMSELVES AND AIR THEIR VIEWS. NOT JUST ANONYMOUSLY GIVING A
ONE ON 5 WHICH ONLY SHOWS THEIR CHEAP BEHAVIOR.

Why can’t U – the ANONYMOUS RATER identify yourself with a NAME??

Whom-so-ever it may be just give a thought as to what all the trouble the singer takes to give us such music, though we may say it is the passion which makes him or her sing – and in return is it fair on our part to just rate it so low?

This is second time its happening in a couple of days.

After Harshan its Pradip’s post which has fallen victim to it.

Hope such cheap activities does not happen on others post and let it not spread as a disease anymore.

Thanks Pradip for sharing your music which you render with sincerity. Your music will always rule the world and such acts hurts many music lovers.
Terribly hurts me as to see such happening on a musical site.

All the best and God Luck always.
