A 15 minute demo compiling some of my original and cover songs….All songs have more of me in my own voice……
This does not have any song that resembles any of the greats, deliberately. It was done on a professional angle for submitting to some modern day music directors. And every one of them today looks out for versatility and modernity in the singers and want to sound different in their songs. It’s a rat race out there. What I have learned from my 25 years as a singer is that today people wah wah when you sing Kishore, Rafi, K.J, S.P.B, Mukesh songs on stage and also on the web where our hearts are still with good old melodious numbers and occassionally some modern songs which do stick on to the basics old good music. But the real world out there is entirely different. If you give a demo of some old songs opening your heart out and giving everything that you have no one even winks! All that they want is “something different”. This Demo is the product of such a view. Hence I would advice all of the aspiring singers who would like to make a mark in the film industry to deliberately avoid typical songs where you have a tendency to sound like the greats knowingly or unknowingly as you tend to be compared with them immediately. Most of the music directors have so little time for us singers and may not hear a CD full of many songs. Hence a medley is the current trend to showcase yourselves, and make sure that all the ingredients of your singing comes out in a single punch :)
That’s why except “Arikil” you will not find any of my other typical covers of the greats in this demo. It’s just an demo of a demo to show how it can be and why it is so. And I also should add that it would be different for every singer as per his/her strengths as a singer.
And my advice is that do not hate or love any particular song or any particular music. In real life, if you are going to be a professional singer, then almost 90% of the time you will have to sing songs and music that you do not personally like. Once we develop a strong distaste for something, it’s very difficult to get to the mood of the song during a recording and it affects you negatively as a singer. Have an open mind to every kind of music!
Now coming to the songs:
1) Chitti Aayi Re( My first Telugu debut song tuned by Bollywood fame “Sandeep Chowta”)
2) Tu Meri Adhuri- From Ghajini
3) Arikil- From Nee Ethra Dhanya ( Malayalam, A masterpiece from G. Devarajan in his later part of life)
4) Hero- Enrique Iglesiasis
5) Muddu Muddu- My own duet with K.S Chitra from an upcoming Telugu Movie.
6) Sakura- A Japanese Song of Naotaro Moriyama
7) Masakkali- From Delhi 6
8) Kumari- From Anyan
9) Yeh Honsla- From Dor ( From Salim Sulaiman duo)

Pradip sir,
Thanks very much for sharing such valuable information with the community here. This will be highly useful and informative for the many aspiring singers here and anywhere else.
I totally can see the current trend of being different, which probably is a result of the abounding talent pool that is being churned out in this generation. And no wonder versatality seems to be what is mainly looked at. Like allrounders in a one day cricket team……:).
That said, I have already heard most of the songs here from your previous posts. It is an excellent mix and selection of songs that bring out your so very wide repertoire. May be you could have added a rap section too….:).
I find your advice and support for fellow artists highly commendable and very noble. I thank you with all my heart for that.
-Narayanan.

it is time for you to showcase the beautiful human being that you are Pradip……what a thoughtful gesture….versality is your middle name!very nicely compiled!
(BTW I just realised that Tu meri Adhuri’s opening is a blatant lift from the song Livin la vida loca(outside inside out) by Ricky Martin……shameful for an Oscar winner….))
