Shashank: “We have with us George Kuruvilla who is rocking Muziboo with his 43 great uploaded songs. He tried his vocal cord with Mostly English covers, few hindi and Malayalam songs…in short complete hit package and commercial material…:D

We would like to know interesting things about George’s musical journey till now…So here we go…”

Shashank: Please tell us something about yourself…

George: “I am originally from Kerala, but have been based out of Chicago for the past 4.5 yrs. From a musical perspective, I am purely a vocalist and like most genres of music. I primarily sing English but occasionally sing Malayalam, Hindi and Tamil. My favorite vocalists are Ronnie James Dio, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden, George Michael, Fernando Ortega, Bryan Adams, Sebastian Bach from Skid Row and Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin. My favorite genres of music are Classic Rock, Celtic and Trance.”

Shashank: How music Start in your life?

George:“Right from my childhood, I was surrounded by musical influences. My mom used to listen to Beatles and other artists of her time. My grandparents are trained in classical music and introduced me to carnatic classical music. I think I really became serious about Music in college where I spent 5-6 hrs a day singing/listening to music. Those were the most important years from a musical perspective. I started discovering my vocal range and started experimenting singing different genres of music.”

Shashank: Did you get support and co-operation from your family? This is very Common Scenario in India…we see most of the parents won’t support their child to go in MUSIC …as its very uncertain field

George:“Not really. My family has always been supportive of my interest in music. However they don’t like me listening to certain types of music due to their supposed satanic influences. These include artists like Judas Priest, Cradle of Filth, Slayer, Deicide etc.”

Shashank: Do you have any formal training in Music?

George: I have learnt Carnatic classic as a young kid for about a year or two. I think it has helped me in vocal control.

Shashank: How do you Practice your music everyday?

George: I try to sing as often as I can. I don’t formally practice everyday.

Shashank: What kind of Music you like?

George: Everything under the sun really. I have a varied taste. I listen to everything from carnatic classical to heavy metal, although I hate Country music :-)

Shashank: What technical knowledge do you think is necessary to know about Music now days?

George: “I think having a basic idea of mixing is very useful. It helps you get started on your own. It also helps to have a basic understanding of programs such as Reason to help you compose your own music.”

Shashank: I see you are doing Covers mostly…Do you have any plan to do ALBUM or some Original work too…

George: “I am working on an original with Sunny currently. I am also hoping to write a few songs in the near future, God willing. “

Shashank: How your Family Supports to you…?

George: “My family has been extremely supportive of my music, especially my wife who is my main support and critique. She has a very good ear for music and gives me an unbiased opinion (not fun to hear all the time). I usually run my songs past her to get her perspective. My mom is probably my biggest fan, but she is always biased towards me and thinks everything is good :-).”

Shashank: What do you think about current trend Music?

George: “I feel music in many ways has lost its charm. Music these days seems straight out of an assembly line that is processed just like everything else we get. Everyone sounds the same thanks to pitch correction and other techniques. Back in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, everyone sounded unique and there was more soul to music. We learnt to accept musicians for what they are and didn’t care about their subtle weaknesses. It’s not the same anymore.”

Shashank: What would you Suggest other Musicians…as they want to follow your path

George: “I am far from an ideal example. I would suggest that they find what they are really passionate about (as it is very confusing these days), work hard towards their goal, and keep at it till they achieve success. I also feel that people should be practical and realistic and understand their limitations and try to stick within their limitations. Before getting into music, it’s important to get a basic degree in something so that they have a backup in case Music does not work out. “

Shashank: Would you choose Music as a Career if given chance?

George: “Given the chance, I would love to take on Music as a career. However being realistic, it’s probably something that is going to remain a hobby or a part time job at best.”

Shashank: What’s your Future Plan?

George: “Currently my main goal is to continue developing my vocal skills and collaborate with as many people as possible and it the process, try to create music that makes a difference in peoples lives.”

Shashank: We also have with us George’s Better half, Roshan. We would also talk to her as she is an inevitable part of George’s Music Life…

Shashank: What do you think about George’s music?

Roshan: “Taking into account that George hasn’t sung in over 5 years, I
think he’s doing a good job. He’s made great progress. However, he
holds immense potential, n I don’t think he’s even begun to scrape
it’s surface. Can hardly wait to see what lies ahead for him”

Shashank: What problems you face when George is more MUCIAN than a Husband…Any Incident?

Roshan: “Hah! I hate to burst your bubble, but George is as good a husband
as he is a musician, if not more. He’s doing a good job at keeping a
balance between his singing, and the time he spends with me.”

Shashank: Do you think he should take Music as a Career…?

Roshan: “Well, if a career as a musician can put bread on the table, and
clothes in my closet, I’d say go for it!”

Shashank: Any moment you remember about his Achievement in MUSIC ?

Roshan: “IIT, Kharagpur spring fest 2000 – Best Vocalist.”

Shashank: Thanks! George and Roshan for wonderful and interesting discussion…George, We hope to see more and more music coming out of you…:D
