Pink Floyd: The Colour of Sound

Pink Floyd: The Colour of S... Lyrics & Chords

This mockumentary is the story of Brendon, a radio journalist who started his career around the same time as Pink Floyd did, in 1966 or so. He talks about his early experiences with the Floyd, and there are clips of him at the Floyd’s live concerts and his interviews with them.

Now Brendon is a retired man, and likes nothing better than a glass of wine and a few keen ears to listen to his recollections of the Floyd. After some convincing, he has agreed to produce a series of his memoirs for radio. This production is the first in that series.

In reality, Brendon was a student in Sydney and my team member for this assignment, another one as part of my audio course there. He and I teamed up together for this project in mid 2006. I did the script while he did the voiceover, and both of us collaborated on the production and post production (done on Pro Tools).

The whole concept is fictional, though what’s real is David Gilmour’s voice which is from actual recordings, Hans Keller’s commentary in the beginning (it is an actual recording from the mid-60’s; he was very critical of Pink Floyd and actually called them a ‘pop group’)and of course, the clips of Pink Floyd songs.

Highlight of the piece: Brendon’s interview with David Gilmour, in which we have made an attempt to match the ambience and equalisation so that it sounds like the two of them are in one room and talking.

The complete piece is ‘framed’ by the sound of radio-tuning, as if a person was fiddling with his radio, found this program and after the program finished, he moved on to another radio station.

Lastly, Brendon being Australian [with an Australian accent :)], we portrayed it in such a way that he had moved to London from Australia at the beginning of his career with the BBC. That justified the accent.

Nishant, this was a long time ago, in Sydney in 2006; I know you are a subject matter expert in this context. :)
