- Good mixing dude, but a couple of things…
- Doesn’t seem like EQed the karaoke track
- High levels were a little more on the vocals… You will notice that specially when she says “Zombie”… In fact I had the same feedback on your songs too I guess… Decrease a the high levels a little and it should be all good… :D

@DJ – Hey man. I’ve noticed this comment of yours in my songs too. I like a certain sound in my mixes, like the vocals to sound a little sharper in most songs, which is why I keep the highs that way for the vocals. This is intentional. I think different people have different preferences when it comes to how the final product should sound. It could also be coz of your DJ background :-)

Another challenge was that Neha’s recording was very poor since she was using an internal mic. So I wanted to make her vocal’s clear and not muffled and hence increased the sharpness. Hope that makes sense.

Hey George, that makes sense… Its true… Different people can have different ways of looking at the final product… Its just that it gives a little harshness to the vocals sometimes and makes it sound too bright… Also it disconnects the vocals from the BG track… As I understand, that is the reason people use certain EQing techniques to mix… As the word goes “Mixing” It needs to mix well…

As a matter of fact, when it comes to rock songs, you have a lot of mid and high level frequencies as the genre requires lot of throw in the vocals… This increases the frequencies even more and as a result while EQing they decrease the high and mid… By increasing the low frequencies it gels well into the bass and the heavy distorted sound of the guitar… Hence it sounds like its mixed well…

In any case an individual can have a different way of looking at it and I agree on that point… I’m sorry if I was too straight forward in putting that across mate… Didn’t mean to offend you… I just say what it is… If it was not intentional I thought the points could help you… If it is intentional then I guess I now know that I don’t need to tell you about that point!! For me what matters is music and you make good music… I know you I guess from the time you’ve been here!! So, keep them coming cuz at the end of it all, its all about the music and it always will be!! Cheers… \m/

DJ…… I was just explaining why my mix is sharper man. Didnt get offended in the least bit:-) What gave you that idea? I apologise if it came across that way.

See the basic difference is that I dont agree with you on the point that if the vocals are bright, it disconnects the vocals from the background. Its just how you look at it. Also in certain songs, vocals need to stand out. When you have a k track, what you have to keep in mind is that it is already mixed. So if you increase the lows n highs, in affects every element on the track. This is not ideal. If I had each instrument separately, its a lot easier. So in my opinion, it is not a wise move to mess too much with the karaoke track. I typically ONLY eq the vocals and the overall mix. And like I said earlier, I typically (not always) like a sharper sound. Just my personal preference man.

As for you n me, dude I agree. We go back a long way. I think you were the first to comment on my first upload on muziboo. So I totally get where you are coming from dude. And all this was meant to be was a healthy discussion. It is just a difference of opinion. No hard feelings mate :-)

the voice harmonies on the original are quite different…. they aren’t throughout but only in parts and it’s different from your version. i guess you added your own harmonies….? good effort though!
