Ennu Varum - Kannaki(Mal C... Lyrics & Chords
This is a song from the Malayalam movie Kannaki. I would like to thank Meena, who reminded me of this beautiful song with her lovely unplugged version of this song sometime back.
Kaithaparam Damodaran Namboothiri’s lyrics set to tune by Kaithaparam Vishwanathan. There are 2 versions of this song – by KJY and KS Chithra. I have tried to follow mostly KSC’s version. Though the mood of the song is wistful – melancholy wins over the yearning.
Since no track was available, I did a vocal cut of the original which has resulted in the loss of some beautiful flute bits. You will not find the backing track and the vocal track well balanced where i have suppressed the vocals. This is the best i could do with my software and mixing skills(?).

Beautiful expressions! Haven’t heard the original (as is the case with most of your songs!). Neelambari, right? I like such songs!
Check out kina… 1:40 or so – felt it was slightly off. I could hear the faint flute bits and it was good. There were many bits that I enjoyed listening to – Poo… gnyan or some such word @ 3:10, verudhe… (gamakam there) etc were nicely done. Keep singing!

Have not heard this song before but that was a really soothing rendition. Feel was excellent. May be you can cut the interludes from the original and add it as a separate track to recapture the flute pieces which I could hear in the background. Any how, this song is carried by the singer for the most part and you did a great job with it.

First time I am hearing this song, have not heard the original.
Radhika :
Do you keep transitioning between falsetto and real voice for fleeting moments in your songs ? It is either that or you are throwing stark volume differences that sometimes it feels your voice is weakening and sometimes it comes in full strength. Example :
“nee illengil” – strong
“nee varill” engil – quoted portion sounds weak
I think you have a very beautiful and strong voice and you can afford to throw even more. Or may be this can be easily fixed in recording. A little more chips-like-crispiness in kinaa pandhalil (“sarg rigm” sa…) portion would be more welcome to savor.

OMG – Murali, i havent thought about or analyzed my own singing this way. I just get into the words and sing. To be honest , i have no idea if i transitioned from my real voice back and forth – but i think it must be more of the volume modulations that must be giving the weak edge that you talk about. It wasnt a conscious effort from me to sound the way i did!

Dear Radhika:
I was here in search of some other songs in male voice. I coincidentally heard your song. Although I never heart it before, somewhere it touched me. Primarily, it is because of your beautiful husky voice and the feelings you have given to the song. Technically, I believe, you could have sung it much better had you used a good microphone, because some places your ‘briga’ did not come as expected, though you sang without fault.
