Blind

Once in awhile the way things happen, once in awhile things just work out.
Once in awhile between two people, once in awhile I just wanna shout.
Did I ever say I love to be with you?
Did I ever say I love the way you say anything?
Did I ever say I’m gonna miss you when I’m gone?
Did I ever say that I believe? I believe that…

We are blind it seems to me. No one sees things in my own way.
We are blind and we choose to be and all the rest just look away.

I lay in my bed lookin’ around. I’m watching the walls- they’re falling down.
And the only thing left is you and me. One choice and voices of authority say:
“You’ve gotta do well in school if you want a good job.”
“You’ve gotta have a good job if you want a good life.”
$%#@ the plan, I’ve got my own. And I’m living today so you will here me say that:

They are blind it seems to me. They can’t see the things that we see.
They are blind and they choose to be. And all the rest can just be what the rest will be.

So where can we go from here? It’s not much longer now ‘til I’m off to new places and new faces and you’re just another one in the crowd.
But I’ll never forget these times with you- we change the world with all that we do.
If you can keep one story, one thread, one line- listen up as I’ll say it one time:

Life is a river we’re all given a boat, it’s not enough to hold on just sit there and float.
Because sometimes in life you gotta paddle upstream, deal with holes in your boat, broken oars, broken dreams.
And I don’t always know how to steer.
And I can’t always see and I don’t always hear.
But we take what we get.
And we give what we got.
One try. One life. Our shot.
And it’s not long now, it’s not long.
