Thus goes the meaning of the song வான் இலா நிலா(It is not ‘வான் நிலா’ actually)
Oh (moon-like) sweetheart! Your youth is not like a moon bereft of sky!
My lady’s moon is like the honey-full moon.
But on all those days when you are not with me I am a waning pale moon.
In a land where there is no deer eye has nothing to get compared!
In the earth which has not known flower is the equivalent only a woman?
Is the divinity in a stone or in the words of a damsel?
Or is it in the wealth or auspiciousness or in the love that she shows?
Is the pleasure unbounded in the contour of her body?
Is it in the blemishless love, or in the love-squabbles, in the bonding or in the song that she tunes?
Is the life on its own path or in the light shown by a woman?
Is happiness at the home town or home land or in her bosom’s fold?
Does the association starts in the darkness, at the compassion of a maiden?
Tell me that Oh Moon, about the countless desires nurtured by my dear (moon-like) woman!
Like many classic songs of Kannadasan (and many other native poets) their creations shine only in the language in which they write, because of the peculiar beauty of their meaning and the alliterations used. They lose their original charm in translations, as it has happened in this instance also.

Anbu….oru secretum idhale ille my friend…….openna sonna many in this forum might not be willing to accept….but nevertheless I will tell you….we all have our own voice which is unique……but in order to get the acceptance we end up imitating the already established….this is how many talented one’s end up singing just like shadows of others and continue to remain as shadows…(including me)…there are few who knows it is incorrect and gets going nurturing their own voice and leave the rest to fall in place in time….one has to fall back on the past talent there is no other way to improve….so get the style and technique and try to get them in your own voice….a lesson I learnt of late…sharing with you….if I have hurt your feelings or others in the process of this explanation please forgive me….continue to enjoy my simple humble singing…hehehe…:)))…
