Murali, This is a tough song indeed, and congrats for the good attempt. The song is in Navarasa Kanada and Shahana, not Desh.
Being a semiclassical song, the details are more relevant.The ‘devi.’ at the end of the pallavi lacks clarity. So also some portions of the swarajathy.
Enjoyed the song very much.

Murali:

I was expecting to be floored. Well that is always my expectation for you. But was not. One thing you should work on is your base note rendition. Your notes were right in swara hrudayam but there was no “azuththam” unlike the higher notes. The swara portions were done very well. Other portions are pretty straight forward for a singer of your caliber.

To my knowledge this song has atleast 3 ragams : The song itself is primarily ins navarasa kaanada (the carnatic song naan oru viLaiyaattu bommaiyaa is in this ragam I think), followed by sahana (iniyum kaNNil) and then desh (aarumillengilum). I think you did the transitions very well.

Murali,…. I am not sure you were physically fit while singing this…. “Ragabhedam” was nicely done…
The bruha s missed clarity in “iniyi kanner” And i felt little problem in loser not especially in “swarahrudayam”…though notes were correct… The sargam part was excellent…
hey all the above mentioned pointers i made because of the expectations from you. You are amazing in semi classical. Best example is alankrutha… . None of the pointers are major… and they never stand across your beautiful singing… 5/5 from me… :)

Very good song selection Murali and very well rendered. The brighas and sangathis were really well captured and the swarajathi was awesome. I liked the improvisation at Ee janmam at the end.

Areas of improvement are strengthening of base notes, and open throated singing at the higher registers. Keep it up.

Murali, You are truly a GIFTED singer. I’m hearing it for the first time and it was heavenly. I wont be able to understand the carnatic influences in the song but I can say that you’ve done a fab job. About the pointers, I too felt the lower registers fell short at few places and the mixing could have been done to add a little more sharpness to the voice, which i feel could have been mind blowing with your rendition.

Overall, excellent song & superb singing. 5/5 undoubtedly.

murali……first of all congrats for attempting such a tough song……and you have rendered it quite well too………but since my expectations about you are very very high i would say you havn’t, i think, come upto your level this time………i felt some strain in your voice and lack of clarity in the lower notes as “swarahridayam”………but i liked your swarajathi very much…….superb with much clarity………
as a whole its ofcourse a nice attempt….but excpect more perfection from you just becuse you are an extra ordinarily talented singer…….

Murali – lovely choice. Singing was good as usual though , I too felt that swarahridayam clarity needs to be better. And for such songs, i feel you need to project your voice stronger(eg at sayahnam, sopanam, swarahridayam, sallapam, devi). The softness in your voice is very apt for the charanam and you have done a wonderful job there.

PS:The nitpicks, are of course since expectations from you are very high as Meena has said!
