Lyrics & Chords

This is a classy song set to fantastic beats sung by Mukeshji from the film AAG (1948). Raj Kapoor on the screen sings this. It is one of Mukesh’s very popular songs. Though it portrays sadness, it’s lilt and music is extremely captivating. Music was by Ram Gangoli and lyrics were by Saraswati Kumar.

I have always felt this to be one of Mukeshji’s top performances.
Here is my rendition/version.

zinda hun is tarah I am aliveke gham-e-zindagi nahin such that I have no sorrows of life
jalta hua diya hun I am a burning lampmagar roshni nahin but there is no light
zindaa hun ….

vo muddatein huin hain There were timeskisi se juda hue (juda=separate) I was separated from some one
lekin ye dil ki aag but this burning heartabhi tak bujhi nahin is not still extinguished
zindaa hun ….

aane ko aa chukaa thaa I had almost reachedkinaaraa bhi saamne The riverbank was in front
khud uske paas hi but my boat (naiya)did not reach there meri naiyaa gayi nahin
zindaa hun ….

honthon ke paas aaye (hasin=beautiful) (majaal=strength)hasin, kya majaal hai
dil ka muaamla hai (muaamla=relation)koi dillagi nahin (dillagi=joke, amusement)
zindaa hun ….

ye chaand ye hava ye faza sab hain maadma (maadma= ? )
jab tu nahin to in mein koi dilkashi nahin (dilkashi=attraction)
zindaa hun ….
