MGRadhakrishnan one more malayalam musical messiah passed away last week. He’s one of the few musicians who composed music without compromising melody and the grammar.
He had mentioned about composing ‘Pazhamtamizhpaattu’ super hit song from mal film ‘Manichitrataazhu’ when I met him in Doha in 1995. I was lucky to sing the same song before him which was a popular hit of that period. he described the pain he went thru composing this song. This song is tuned in carnatic raga ‘AAHIRI’ which is a rare /apporvaragam as there’s superstition that when you sing/compose song in this ragam you will not get food for some days. According to MGR, he met with the same fate. after composing this song he’s hospitalised and food was restricted.
Singing this song without any music….paying homage to one of the few classic music composers in malayalam film industry.
