Paruvame- with Hari Bhaskar

Lyrics & Chords

This is my first duet with Hariji. But it is his first duet on Muziboo and I am so glad that it turned out to be a special one! :)

Hariji is also known as the “SPB of Toronto”. His tonal quality has a striking similarity with that of SPB’s, This was indeed acknowledged by the great S.Janaki herself after he sang a song with her on stage. Please do visit some of his old SPB song covers if you haven’t done so already. He is also one of my mom’s favourite singers in Muziboo :)

This song is very special to me as I associate it with my earliest memories of childhood. I remember how eagerly I used to wait for this song to be played in the radio and how deeply engrossed I was, watching the movie that my grandparents took me to in Coimbatore! :). I even remember saying that I hated the ending :). This is the movie that gave us the great star Suhasini, in the stupendous direction of Mahendran.

This is one of the most unforgettable duets in Tamil cinema for me and believe that it will make a good start to the Valentine’s season this year :) (although you might say that everyday is a Celebration of Love for the lovestruck :D).

The song might seem very easy but one understands how tricky the notes are when one gets to the middle of charanams.

Please do let us have your valuable comments and suggestions. And thanks for listening :)

Movie: Nenjathai Killaathey (1980)
Music :Maestro Ilayaraaja
Originally sung by :SP Balasubramaniam, S.Janaki
Mixing :Hari Bhaskar

Beautifully sung akka as usual… I loved that ‘sirikkiRal…….’ portion… very well rendered with a beautiful feel both of you… Loved it… :)

Nice singing both of you … brought back memories. Nicely done with clear good quality voices.

Tempo should be a bit faster I think. Word endings as in ParvaME and IlamaYIN could be better with snappier sangathis in my HO.

Overall very good and well presented. Nice voice Hari and Adithi your voice was good in this.

Adithi, what a beautiful song! As you mentioned Haribhasker sounds very close to SPB. Singing this requires a lot of voice control, which you have shown. Both of you have made this a superb cover-Congrats!

Aditi —> Back to form after your previous two covers…I feel sincerely. Your singing is awesome with crisp vocals and beautiful expressions. This is the usual Aditi, we used to hear and I liked the “Ilamayin” in the Pallavi and the “Sirikkiral” in the 1st charanam. The next word …Is it “chirikkiraal” or “sirikkiral”. Just a doubt, pa…

Haribhaskar —> As usual, kalakkal singing with the soft touch of SPB. 1st charanam “Paarvai Serum” is very cute…“Anaikkiraan” with a smile is fantastic too. Poraamaiyaa irukku pa….

Naan kooda oru SPB song try panniirukken….Kettu paathu neega than comment vaasikkanum…Konjam bayamave irukku.

Wonderful jogging rhythm. Heard that IR did that by slapping his bare thighs continuously, while recording this song. What an innovation !!

Great work and indeed an enjoyable duet with Hariji !!!

Certainly, goes to my favorites…

ஹரி – ஆதித்தி!!

இந்த படைப்பை பற்றி என்ன சொல்வது என்று யோசிக்கின்றேன்………

I know that, it is impossible for anyone to imitate human act ‘as-is’ but after listening to this song, what I learnt is this – “You may not be able to imitate or reproduce any human act ‘as-is’ but you can always deliver something better than the original performance”. Yes, I mean it. Your rendition is definitely sweeter than the original one. Lovely singing by you both.

குறிப்பா அந்த “ஹோய்” அப்படின்னு சொல்ற இடத்துல……… may be it is just me. ;)

Hari – You know me right??…I am always kind of little bit outside the half stump ;)

The k track has a diseased effect, especially the interludes :(

Hari and Adithi – awesome cover!! subtlety required for this song was just about perfect!

Adithi said

Thanks a lot folks! I do agree that the track wasn’t the best but songs like these somehow just can’t wait for the perfect track, you will agree! :D

@Anbu aNNa- The original goes “sirikkiraal” and “sivakkiraaL”, I sang it as “chivakkiraaL” :P

Akka & Mr.Hari Bhaskar…….

Beautiful effort……

Before commenting on this song , i would like to mention about the director of the movie , Mr.Mahendran……Director of my all time favourite movie “Johnny”…….Last week , Priyan sir written in a column "Once i have seen a person in a video shop at Chennai , shouting at the staffs with some video cassettes. When i have checked with the staffs there , they told me that he had came there to sell some cassettes of him & claiming that those movies are directed by him. His name is “Mahendran” !!!!"……….When Priyan sir turned back , Mahdenran sir already crossed the road & vanished !…….He felt very sad on the situation of that brilliant director !!!

Now about the rendition , Akka , you have made it as good as the original itself….Numbers of Janakiyamma are always very suitable to your voice culture…….As always , it’s just like a casual walk for you , akka…….Very neat flow was there throughout…………

Mr.Hari Bhaskar , Very good effort………Fantastic….

All the very best….

@Suresh- That was a very sad anecdote! :((( What a fabulous director Mahendran was! He was a huge inspiration to people like Maniratnam. There is a scene in “Johnny” where Sridevi says to Rajni “Hmm…naan appdi thaan”. Her facial expression there is a true mark of the genius directing her.

I hope people like Mahendran are recognised for their contribution to Cinema!

Suresh r (slowly slowly slowly....on the track) said

Yes….Akka….You are absolutely correct….Manirathnam sir’s favourite movie directors are Balu Mahendra sir , Mahendran sir , Jijo sir (maker of “My dear Kuttichathan” & "Padayottam) Bharathan sir , Padmarajan sir & Faazil sir….In that he ranks Mahendran sir the best………

But he was financially not sound at all !!! That’s why all these things happened…….
