Non-Filmy Rafi song #5 : Main Gwalo Rakhawalo (Cover)

Lyrics & Chords

This also is one of the Shrikrishna Leela song. The original came from the great trio – Poet Madhukar Rajasthani, Composer Khaiyyam sahab and was sung by one and only Rafi sahab.

The song is written in Brij Bhasha and the theme is similar to the “Main Nahi Makhan Khayo”. Little Kanhaiyya, when questioned by Yashoda Maiyya about makhan chori, replies in his naughty wit. First he logically refutes being a thief (first antaraa), next he strikes emotional chords to soften Yashoda Maiyya’s anger(second antaraa) and finally he declares his birth right over all the butter produced in Brij! (third antaraa)
In my musical memories this song is the oldest. I remember waking up in morning, many times, listening to this song when I was very small and was not even going to the play school……

Adwait Bhai, Your research on Rafi Saab is commendable. It truely reflects your passion towards music. This one as obvious is a lovely, tough song to render which you done with ease. Lovely Expressions as desired by Krishan Ji’s Naughtiness & the aptly written lyrics. Hats Off !!!

Hi Adwait,
I’d heard this during school days. Very similar to the popular ‘Maiya mori, main nahin maakhan khayo’.
Enjoyed your clear rendition!
