Mee Dolkar Daryacha raja..Marathi cover by Harshan and Adina.

Lyrics & Chords

This is a beautiful composition in Marathi by the legendary Hridyanath Mangeshkar and is a pretty tough composition which demands a lot of breath control besides the complicated chord progression. Its originally sung by Hemant kumar and Lataji. I grew up listening to this song where this song would be regular fixture for all festive occasions in Mumbai during the 70s. I suggested this song to Adina a few months ago and she was ready with her part pretty quickly – its amazing how she picked up the soul and diction….hats off. I took some time as usual I have issues with my diction in everything I do:-) Would like thank Adwait Ranade for the track and his initial inputs and suggestion.

Adina has done a brilliant job with her beautiful voice, its hard to tell that she is from Austria. I tried hard to keep up with her….:)

Would like to thank Harry Jasal for this wonderful mix….Hope you enjoy this cover and your feedback are very welcome:)

This is a folk composition called as Koli geet (basically sung by Maharashtrian fishermen ). I dedicate this song to all my friends on this site, who lives or has lived in the great city of Mumbai……for the spirit of Mumbaikers….and to enjoy the nostalgia…here it goes for all of you !!

Original song details -———
Composer: Pandit Hridaynaath Mangeshkar
Singers : Hemant Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar.
Genre : Koli geet (Album)
Lyrics : Shanta Shelke

Here is the link to the original

A new mix was received from Harry and the mp3 has been reloaded.

Harshanji and Adina, beautiful composition and enjoyed in both of ur vocals… though not familiar with the original, could feel that in both of your vocals esply Harshan the way you modulated your vocals… liked the beat of the song… Adina’s is entrance is awesome, yeah her vocals are just awesome. High registars are very nice covered….

WooooooooW!!!!! It seems like a breadthless train esply from 3:19 onwards… its non-start… Applauds Applauds to both of you and esply Adina for adapting soo quickly to the tune and diction… fantastic performance… Straight to Fav’s…

Amazing, am left speechless and wordless to comment on this sweeet duet , one of the best ever country song in Marathi and now in muziboo. though sweet to ears, this composition is highly complex , with number of flash twists , turns and about turns of notes that demands additional pair of lungs. And i am too happy to hear it from two of my closest personal friends . Hats off to both of you . Though you took more time to finish this project than rowing across pacific ,fishing in between, it was worth. Harshan took the toll i guess, with his throat stalling, quite understandable… hehe Loved to the hilt.

Harshan bro – sorry for the late entry here – This is a simply magical rendition and a dream rendition at that as some of the traverses of the swars are quite tricky in this song. We all grew up with this song in our childhood in Aamchi Mumbai. Adina has done such wonderful performance with her mellifluous way of capturing the varied tune and you have done equally well.

Not to be disrespectful of the greatness of well known singers in Bollywood but I rate this way better than the recent one at Coke Studio ;-)

Absolutely nostalgic pick, and wonderful rendition, Harshan and Adina! Thanks to Adwait for the coaching and tips. Great mix from Harry – however I think the mix could bring the voices more to front, and the chorus voices need more tracks?
Adina – special Kudos to you for handling koLiwali Marathi so well, and Harshan – you are more at ease with Marathi than Mal! :-)
Favs,
Sudha

Harshan and Adina,

Sorry for being late here……really missed out something here guys.

Lovely and wonderful singing by both of you…….

Harshan, echo some of the views above……you seem more at ease with Marathi than Malayalam, the Mumbai effect shows…….ur singing had lot of soul……

Adina, with her perfect pitching and expressions was the ideal foil for this duet……

Harry’s mixing skills are never doubtable….

Music is my meditation…….Shailender

This is a brilliant composition by HM, and am well-versed with it. Actually it is difficult to sing a Hemant Kumar or Talat Mahmood duet esp with Lata Mangeshkar where their soft voices tend to get swamped by Lata’s sharp and powerful presentation.

@Harshan, excellent effort from you. you have done really well to get the ‘koli effect’ of this song.

@Adina, what do I say about your singing? I have sung this song on stage with a Maharashtrian who has done a ‘Visharad’ in music, and I can tell you your performance here is far superior to that of her.

Fabulous Harshan & Adina….!!

Harshan,

Thank you very much for pointing me to this cover of your’s. I have heard this song during childhood, possibly its Hindi version. I never knew Hemant-da sang Marathi numbers too.

It was quite a pleasure to listen to this cover. Thoroughly enjoyed it. As others have pointed out above, your voice matches Hemant-da’s very closely. The superb softness, and effortlessly leading to the higher notes, etc.

Adina seems to be a spectacular singer. An Austrian singing a desi song. Awesome :-) !!

Cheers guys,

Hemanth

You know Harshan…., I kept humming the start of this Marathi song (do we call it “pallavi” in technical terms?), only to figure out that Maestro Ilayaraja was probably inspired by it for one of his 1990’s Tamil superhits :-) !

Do check out the start (Pallavi?) of the Tamil song “Vandenda Palkaren” from the movie “Annamalai”…. It is essentially the same notes, but probably a bit faster tempo:

Just thought of sharing….
