Mahalakshmi Ashtakam

Lyrics & Chords

I composed the music/tune for this very well known strotram with a raga malikai of various carnatic music raagas. I start of with Kalyani, then move to a Vasantha-Kalyani mix and then to Nattai and then back to Kalyani.

I hope you will all enjoy this.

I recorded this at home with the awesome
Blue Yeti USB Microphone

Would appreciate and welcome your feedback.

My blog entry for this composition is here

Hi Shreedhar, This was divine in all senses of the word. It is an excellent composition and you have set it to a marvellous tune and rendered it with classical rasa. I know it started out with Kalyani and then went on to a couple of other ragas which I am not too sure about but was just enjoying your singing. You have a good sense of fluency, feel and classical grip. Your nuances were quite non chalant and I would say that you would shine in light songs as I feel that your voice is quite malleable and not very deep rooted in classical … just enough to give you an excellent musical base.

Totally impressed and keep them coming!.

Arvind, you have analyzed my singing capabilities very well – I could not have articulated my strengths as well as you did – and that’s the way it should be. Thanks so much

Wooooowwww! Shreedhar! Fabulous composition and amazing singing! :)

Sangathis were all very beautiful! :)I used to sing these verses in the way Sudha Raghunathan has rendered (in the same raagam). But now I have a fabulous alternative to learn :). Thanks a lot!

The only nitpick is that stability in shruthi could be improved.

So happy to have found you here! Please do treat us with more such divine compositions.

Thanks a lot Uthra, Adithi and Rekha. Adithi, you are so right about the shruthi/stayi levels in those few spots that I did not bother to rectify. I certainly could use some more regular practice to get back in shape after a gap of several years :-)

Thanks for the honest feedback – loved it.

Hi Shreedhar,
Lovely tone you have, and this was so serene and beautiful. You have very good command over raagas and your voice. Its so innovative to sing this as a ragamalika – most of us are familiar with the same raaga one – I forget the raaga.
Loved it,

Shreedhar – very interesting piece of work, kudos! This hymn being a part of daily prayers, could associate and relate with your work a lot. Only nitpick is the padmasanasthitha piece – felt clarity in singing could be better. Also, if you can include details of the ragas used – will help. I take ages to map ragas :-)

Shreedhar Ganapathy said

Thanks Sarada and sorry for the late response here.
Thank you very much Radhika for the candid remarks.
I have to re-record this rendition for a commercial distribution request I have gotten. So your feedback is very timely.
