Jibon Khatar (Deyaneya) - A salutation to Shyamal Mitra

Lyrics & Chords

Song : Jibon Khatar
Movie : Deyaneya
Singer : Shyamal Mitra

Performed by : Murali Venkatraman
Karaoke Track created by : Murali Venaktraman
Mixed by : George Kuruvilla

Prior to Lalita’s arrival in my life, Pandit Ajoy Chokraborty and Manna dey were my only sources of knowledge of bangla songs. Lalita introduced me to 2 important artists later : Haimanti Shukla and Shyaml Mitra. While I have sung one song of Haimanti Shula earlier, this is the first one I attempt of Shyamal Mitra. His style of singing is unmistakably polite and surreally romantic. I have tried really hard to imbibe the style of singing and also the pronunciation. Please let me know what you think of it.

BTW, I created the track and sang this without Lalita’s knowledge and presented it as her birthday gift when we were apart :)

Very soothing and melodious song and your rendition is absolutely beautiful Murali. The diction is perfect and the feel is apt.
Loved it totally.

(It would have been ideal if you had also mentioned the name of the lyricist and also provided the English translation also, so that non-Bengalis would have appreciated the beauty and depth of this Bengali poem, which according to me occupies a high position in the contemporary poetry.)

Kind regards,
Giri.

Murali-
Latha pointed me to this rendition of yours. Being a bong myself, I must salute to your effort, Sir. So many (good) things I want to write about your song, but that would take up few pages. Loved E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G!!! Dil chhu-jaanewali feelings, Shyamal Mitra style expressions (especially the harkatein in “hobena”, “robena”), quite difficult to master those murkhiyan so smoothly. As I said, I could go on….
Kaka’s Anurodh had a slight similarity w/Deya Neya. The movie had 6 songs, all written by Gouriprasanna Mazumdar, music by Shyamal Mitra himself. Ami Cheye Cheye and Gaane Bhuban are my favorites.
You sent me decades back yaar…….during those sweet & sour college days……and those bong programs….w/live orchestra……a.a.a.a.hhhhh.

Dear Asim:

Thank you for your generous and kind words. Your observation about the murkis invoked a smile in me because I did have to work on them a lot more than any other portions of the song. Thanks once again.

Chandrakant : Thank you very much !

Very beautifully sung with feel (of course I dont understand the language but the feel permeates through and through) – loved the softness in expressions as well in addition to the free flowing voice.

Wow….you have captured the mood of the song so beautifully …and being a not Bengali speaker you deserve all the credit for it all the more… the softness , the dulcet tune of this particular song is the signature of Shyamal Mitra…a all out lover boy of Bengali songs …I remember the song was played in the movie on the radio where the face of the hero was not shown even for once…so the intensity of the song was all concentrated in its delivery and in its lyric…All we could see was the expression of Tanuja intently listening without a blink of eyelid…it was mesmerizing to say the least…great work and eager to listen more from you …your Bengali diction is superb…

Thanks Sharmila. Happy to note that the diction seems to have passed :) I will be releasing a bengali original sometime soon.
