Ithazhil Kathai Ezhudum (Tamil) with Srividya Kasturi

Lyrics & Chords

Song Name: Ithazhil Kathai Ezhudum Neeram
Movie Name: Unnal Mudiyum Thambi (Tamil)
Music Director: Illayaraja
Lyricist : Muthulingam Pulamaipithan
Singer : SPB and K S Chitra

This is my first duet here in Muziboo and I thank Srividya for collaborating with me on this one.

Srividya needs no introduction, one of the finest artists here with amazing voice control and quality.

This recording wouldnt have been possible without our dear “Aahaaa” Raj Kumar and Vishnu.

I specially thank Raj for having suggested this song and having taken the time out of his busy schedule to co-ordinate our efforts.

High marks to Vishnu for his keen ear and passion for music which makes his mixing so perfect!!

Thanks again Vidya for lending your voice to this number. It was a pleasure working with you. Looking forward to more such work in the future!

Beautiful rendition, Vishak and Vidya! :)

The feel aspect has improved tremendously in your songs. Loved all sangathis :) Just take care of diction issues (Eg. thaamadam with a Ttha and mugham with a Ggha).

You were brilliant with the expressions as usual. Felt you could have sung the ending of charanams with some more confidence. Liked your “solvaai” a lot! :)

A lovely treat to the ears! :)

very beautiful rendition. Vaishak and Vidya both of you have great voice and singing is superb, with nice expressions and feeling. i really enjoyed it.

Lovely rendtion Vishak and Vidya.

Vishak – your best rendition I feel. Sangathis were very nice. Also expressions were well done. Great job.

Vidya, beautifull sung also. The charanam ending could be bolder I thought.

Meera Manohar said

Nice pick guys….

Vishak— some of your improvs were really nice ( I really enjoyed the aaa at 3.17 specifically— kudos!!), landing notes being a little smoother would make it sound better. Overall— think it was very nicely done. And, the original female singer is Chitra :)

Vidya— I would tend to agree with Subbu on this, didn’t hit the spot for me. I felt you were struggling with the words ( as in no flow, it was too cut and right ) and it’s not an easy song to sing lyrics wise :-) Also, your sangathis were very fleeting— again my 2c. Hope you take it in the right spirit.

Vishnu— Vidya’s voice has way much reverb than Vishak’s. Her voice is also jarring even in lower registers ( recording issues maybe!?)

However, all that being said, awesome effort!! 5/5 definitely for that

Dear all,
thank you all very much for the comments.

Thanks Adithi for pointing out the diction issues. I will make a conscious effort towards the diction (since this isnt my only song with diction issues)

I should also mention here that my initial version was pretty bad and full credit to Vidya who helped me polish that version.

Hi Meera,
thank you for pointing out the error in my description above. I have corrected it now.

Hi Vishak and SriVidya,

In terms of good delivery I think both of you have done a very good job of this song … probably the best I have heard of this song in muziboo if I strain to compare!. The compressed effect of the mixing has also made it standout a bit more than other versions … on this point however, the bgm has been too compressed and is sort of in your face!. Would have preferred the track to sit back a bit and let the voices sit properly on top. Everything was loud and compressed a bit too much, which sort of spoilt the party for me a bit … makes it a bit harsh … one should understand the mood of the song when mixing as well … this is key to overall success. You cannot apply mixing and mastering the same way to every song … my humble opinion.

Both of you have safely upshored the sangathis of this song so no real issues there. Vidya has breathed more expression in her part but it is to be noted that expression goes with the lyrics at hand … although your expressions were good Vidya, I got the feeling somehow that you were sprinkling it generously rather than using it to highlight key words … for which studying the lyrics beforehand is vital I feel … and then decide where to press the expression pedal!.

Vishak … this song was a good showcase for your singing talent and well done on that score!. Your variation of the “aah” at one point was very commendable. On the downside, your expression was one-paced and felt like a matter-of-fact delivery. You need to cream these type of songs with a lot more volume and curve variation … it is not only about sangathis … sangathis are a combination of notes that either fall in its frequency or they don’t … however volume variations and curves are very unique to the individual’s voice and with the benefit of our musical ears and imagination we should learn how to act out our voices for the listeners entertainment … this is key to playback singing I feel … the final test is … can an actor on screen take your song and act it out?!. It’s a hard one to perceive but nevertheless a good benchmark.

Splendid performance both of you and I particularly liked Vidya’s delivery which had a compelling shape to it with further promises!.

~With a rhythm is born a song. From a pulsing heart is born music!.

Vishak Subramoney said

Thanks Arvind for the very thought provoking comment. i ll definitely try to improve the feel using the above mentioned benchmark.

Vishak: I think I am listening to your song for the first time. Nice voice. Liked some of the variations – neramidhu…. Yengi thavika…….aa…. (that one was a tough one and it sounded beautiful)

Vidhya: Nice voice but something was different about this rendition – I thought the clarity of words could have been better. Just my opinion please don’t get me wrong. The giggle somewhere in charanam was nicely done.

Nice voices and enjoyed the rendition. Keep posting more.

Vishak & Vidya – wonder how i missed this one.

Vishak – very good and clear singing. From an improvemnet perspective, just a bit more feel to your voice and this would have been even better.

Vidya – I too thought at places , words were a bit rushed and felt that the mix didnt balance your voice well. Maybe its just me. There were many places where you sounded effortless and beautiful.

Enjoyable cover, both of you!

Sounds nice…. Loved d way Vishak sang that ‘aaaahhahh’ at 3:17 n still wondering how u managed it, was it in a single try or did u practice more to get that finetune??? Nice to hear Srividya with her smile while uttering words like ‘’yaarathai chonnathu’’ at 4:33 and u gotta beautiful voice. Brilliantly sung inspite of a very difficult composition. Hats off to ur gr8 efforts and with your permission, I take it close to mah heart as a favorite.

Missed this song….
well done! And kudos for the guts to attempt this song, which imho is a big toughie…not all would confidently try it…
Vishak – loved you singing….didn’t pay much attention to diction. And simple for executing the ragam perfectly, full marks from me….good feel or not… :)
Vidhya – lovely voice again….and good singing….but some notes on the high register felt a little….how to put it….out of place…maybe pitchy, or the wrong M or N, or like that. And there was a little breathiness which took away the continuous charm of some lines…but very few such….
overall, enjoyed it a Llloottt!
