NakshatraDeepangal
NakshatraDeepangal Lyrics & Chords
Superhit classical song by KJYesudas. Music by Jayavijaya disciples of Carnatic maestro Chembai vaidyanaathabhaagavathar. In the film ‘Nirakudam’ (starring kamalahaasan, sridevi), this song featured Yesudas singing for a festival. The famous double swaram by Chembai is included in the song which is quite difficult to perform and dasettan’s done a great job, which is very difficult to sing. Please bear with me for the mistakes in this great song.
The Navarathri Mandapam Concert series is of nine days duration culminating with Mahanavami, conducted every year in the navarathri mandapam of trivandrum palace, started by Maharaja swathitirunal. Interesting fact is that Chembai bhagavathar and yesudas never performed in the Navarathri mandapam, although this song mentions Chembai singing in the Mandapam.

Appreciate for selecting such old classics Malayalam film songs.
Difficult song, you have done an excellent job.Throughout beautiful singing, great voice control.
Start aalap was very very beautiful. congrat… keep up.
Still I remember this song performance by Yesudas in Ettumanoor temple festival during his classical concert… sometimes in 1981.
Rating 5/5. goes to my favorites.
Sing & upload more such old classics….

Hi Mohan, Nice song selection which is a challenging one. Your voice seemed different in this and felt like you were not in the best of form. Quite a number of sruthi issues in this effort of yours. Well tried anyhow and enjoyed the song overall. Needs more attention to a number of nuances … cheers.

Thanks Gopinath for your comments. Dasettan had done a special kalpana swarams in of the concerts for this song in the ‘Mridangathil palakkaattu mani…’ which was simply superb.
Thanks Srinivasan sir. I understand the shruthi issues and it’s quite diff to sing.
Thanks Arvind for enjoying the song. You’re right. My voice is not okay because of strain (I do teach carnatic music and last week had series of programmes) but still got a mood to do this song and felt exhausted after doing this song. Especially the sankarabharanam chembai style swarams have come really pathetic as I struggled to sing those.

Mohanlal,
I remember Mavelikkara Krishnankutty Nair was the Mridangist in the program there. While singing in the concert Yesudas replaced the portion ‘mridangathil palakkattu mani ’ with ’mridangathil mavelikkara krishnankutty …’ very beautifully. Thanks for bringing such golden memories back…

Thanks gopinath sir. You’re right. I have heard that in one of the audio cassettes. Also in another concert he sang manodharma swarams for the line mridangathil as the ragam is changing.

I want to thank you for singing this song…You have done reasonable justice to the song though there were problems here and there. Wont go in to the details as according to me even attmpting such a song itself is great.
Keep singing and sharing…All the best

Mohanlalji,
Its a really tough song. I am a mere audience here, so first let me appreciate your valiant attempt. The initial alap was really well rendered. You have unique voice, which is really good. I loved your rendition. But your voice had a lot of strain. Once small doubt since you are a teacher too, as a student i wanted to know if its actually advisable to sing such tough numbers when your throat is not okay :-) Shouldn’t we give ample rest to our voice also at times. But despite all these the song has it essence in its rendition.

Rahul

Thanks murali and I admire our ganagandharvan for rendering such a difficult song.
Thanks a lot Rahul. You’re right if you have strain in the voice you’re not supposed to sing, but I do sometimes and it has affected my voice. Because of the enthusiasm to sing some times it happens. I admire ganagandharvan who did a marvellous job and it was recorded in one stretch as those days there was not track recording system.

Hi Mohan,
Great attempt…. Nobody will dare to attempt this great song. And, you have done it… Kudos for that…
A humble request…… Please sing, record and upload this song once again, with your clear voice. Take note to balance all tracks (voice & music) nicely, so that the music also is heard loudly (I mean, the accompanying instruments, which are the greatest assets of this song). The music should take equal process to support your vocal, then, it adds the depth and ambience of the song…
And, this is one of our (mine & my wife’s) favorite songs, because my father-in-law was the producer for that movie and naturally, this song is very close to our heart.
Cheers,
Verghese

Thanks a lot verghese for your encouraging comments. Definitely I will give it a try to redo this. Glad to know that your f-in-law was the producer of this movie. I was a kid when I watched this movie (1977 or 78) and was thrilled to see yesudas on big screen at that time.

hi mohan ji,
very tough song and great attempt indeed!
as others commended there were some flaws here and there, especially i expected a lot more confidence from you in the ‘kathrika swarangal’
keep going :-)
Mohan Lal said
You’re right jose. It’s a difficult song and I should practise more on the swarams which is really tough and always admire our great bhagawathars who perform live and spontaneous on the stage.
