Mogara Phulala - Marathi Abhang
Mogara Phulala - Marathi Ab... Lyrics & Chords
Thought would revive my music (singing/listening). Recently found the karaoke track of a marathi song that I sang on stage last september so decided to record and post it. The song is an Abhang (devotional poetry) by Sant Dyaneshwar set to tune by Hridaynath Mangeshkar and sung by Lata ji. The lyrics can be interpreted in various ways. Being a non-marathi speaker, I relied on this youtube link for trying to understand the meaning of the abhang. It is indeed so beautiful. So here goes my attempt.
Song: Mogara Fulala
Singer: Lata Mangeshkar
Music: Hridaynath Mangeshkar

Wow, Nandita ji! Glad to see you back after such a long time. This community has been poorer because of your absence. Now that you are back, I am hopeful you will stay.
Coming to the abhang, sung very beautifully with bhakti. I know how difficult it is to sing Lata/HM combo songs!

What a way to make a come back, Nandita! Super song selection and superb singing. This HM composition and Sant Dnyaneshwar ji’s soulful poetry demands mastery over notes and expressions and you have excelled in both areas as usual.
The track is missing the HM signature flute in interludes but your soulful singing made up for it :)
ps: I have not come across better translation that the link you gave above. Kudos to your interest, research and efforts to bring out the nuances so well in your rendition. Who will believe you to be a non-Marathi speaking person?

HK ji – Thanks. Will try to be more active.
Saroj – Thanks. I also really like this song :).
Sarada – Thanks. Glad you liked it.
Paras – You have a good memory :). Am happy you liked this effort.
Sudha – Thanks Sudha. Hope your level of inactivity decreases. As I am looking forward to atleast listening more if not recording :).
Harshan – Thanks. Glad you loved it and it made its way to your fav list. Will try to sing more often.
Adwait – Thanks a lot for liking and fav’ting it. Am glad you liked the link as well. Coming to the non-marathi part – I shouldn’t take a lot of credit for the diction :). Was in mumbai for 20 years. Never formally learnt marathi in school so cannot speak the language at all. However am able to understand around 60% of the language (i.e. the simple kasa kay types not the complicated poetry etc. :)).
