About sanjay
Sanjay Gahlot is basically a self taught musician who taught himself to play Hawaiian guitar way back in 1979, but soon capitulated to the charm of its more popular Spanish cousin and quickly removed the steel bridge of his Hawaiian guitar and started strumming basic Indian rhythms on it. Soon he discovered the magic of Indian flute and harmonica as well and his musical journey began. Sanjay feels that Profession is just one spoke in the wheel of life, and it takes so many spokes like family, friends, parents, peers, colleagues, and non tangibles like music poetry, spiritualism, philosophy, religion, political ideology to form the wheel of life. As long as all spokes of wheel are in place ,the wheel of life is in shape..otheriwse it wobbles. Sanjay served in the Indian Army as captain in a Cavalry Regiment for five years and now is an Indian Revenue Service officer(customs)...oh whats is this customs officer doing in music..? Professionally, he did a variety of assignments in Delhi, including the last one with Central Bureau Of Investigation and then finally with Revenue Intelligence in Mumbai. At the moment he is Additional Commissioner Of Customs, excise & service tax In Mumbai. Despite a totally different professional background, Sanjay is essentially a musician and a keen musicologist. He has received classical training under renowned Samvadini maestro Pt Manohar Chimote of Virar. But as far as Indian flute, guitar and harmonica is concerned, he is self taught by mere listening to the masters. His daughter is also a guitar player and a song writer and sings in English and French. They are a father daughter band of guitarists. Sanjay plays nylon string classical guitar, steel string guitar finger style and steel Hawaiian slide guitar besides harmonica and Indian bamboo flute. He plays guitar and blue harp placed on a neck holder simultaneously a la Bob Dylan. Amongst the classical vocalists, he admires ustad Amir khan sahib. His favourite film music composers are late Naushaad sahib, madan mohan, JaiDev, SD Burman and the reason for admiration emanates from the fact that they were original in their work and did not even use any inspiration T-Series has launched Sanjay Gahlot’s debut “Behki Si Iss Raat Mein”. His promotional video is on air. Everything needs complete dedication He jokingly says that making and releasing of his album has been the second big examination of his life after Civil services. But even this journey has been enriching, and enobbling experience. Please see his videos on youtube including the music video of his debut album.
