Balu- even though its kind of sounding little 80ish Illayaraja style. I loved the way the song progress.
Loved the lyrics. Suddha Dhanyasi ragam has been used so much by IR for these kind of settings its difficult not to compare.

I like the way the singers have let themselves loose and gone with the flow. You have also done a nice job with the harmonization.

Could have used different instruments to de-lineate the genres.

“en kaadhal neelam vaanam ellaiyae” vaanam ellaiyae should have been sang in a separation….to give the lyric an emphasis ……balu very nice pa ….un settai thaangalai …? haha …oru nalla lyricist unakkulla irukkan pola…?……ithai naan note pannikkiraen……, orchestration is nice ……but could have been more convincing……with slight ly less clutter on leads instead the idea is to give a trip feel in the rythm n bass going in well with the song….

I can feel how a new song could give u puzzles in rendering , I am sure you felt it too while rendering it. This is totally because of distance recording and publishing. Its really hard to convey the composers feel even to a trianed singer…….bit more homework with expression and understanding of melody to lyrical relationship….would have given a bright recording….one more thing is when recording new songs its better to memorise the lyrics and melody and grind it in the head….which will lead to come out with expresion in couple of days……this is a preffered way ,but…….I still cant understand how could SPB sang 13 recordings in one day……all new songs with different expressions……… thats pure experience than just training.

Wow Meera excellent singing…. Very rocking indeed…. Gigling was fav. as well as the harmony parts…. A few more harmonies in the antaras could have been good.
Few places in the track could have backed with basier synths….like the AAR style….

great sound recording….loved the background music… however feel that the synth sound can be replaced with real instruments… or with sounds that have an earthier texture…. Meera! you sang well… i thought the opening lines Yaaravan ….in the pallavi were a bit abrupt…loved the “Thara…rathari intervention” Overall an outstanding performance…Kudos Meera and Bala for this outstanding feat…

Heard it on Muziboo yesterday. Your singing was good. However, I thought the interludes between charanams had unnecessary rap and seemed to have a rather abrupt start to each charanam. The “techno” effect also did not gel with me…
Thus, tho’ your singing was fine, the music was not my cup of tea!
Hopefully we can compensate for this with another soulful melody very very soon!

Great composition Bala. Honestly loved it. Very commercial. You should try and perfect this and market it. The choice of instruments at some points could have been better. The hip hop was cool, but not sure if it had to be in english. Overall just great!

Meera, very well sung and nice expressions. I am curious about the reverb/echo u used. Sticks out in an odd way. Tht could be fixed. Again you could mix up the landing notes a bit (sustain it once in a while).

Loved it overall guys!

Bala – very catchy one and you have successfully captured the mood of your intended theme. Hope your throat is back to normal after that hoarse thara-thara and the rap bit :) – Added the required punch, Bala. The ending was a bit noisy to my taste though :)

Excellent twist for diluted hindholam. One of the energetic hindholams I have heard after namma ooru singaari.

Your vocals stole the show from Meera’s. Excellent improvs and punching in. One thing that people who revel in the ‘pure’ domain do not realize is the creativity that is required to come up with filler words (which are basically dismissed as gibberish). But ask somebody to talk or sing in gibberish continuously. It is very difficult. And in that aspect, rappers who manage a fast delivery of words (with some meaning occasionally) have my respect.

Meera : It is refreshing to see you in the kicking original form. Strangely, till today if I can remember well, nobody has compared you with any of the legends’ voices which gives you a unique stamp

Prem, As of now I am using Garageband. It does not allow VST plug-ins. So I can only use the instruments that come with the garageband package (unless I want to pay for AU instruments!). I try my level best to tweak the tones using AudioUnit effects to get different tones/instruments from the available package. May be those tones sounded a bit odd to you.

Ganesh, Maruthi, Murali – Thanks for the raaga info/clarification. Honestly, I started composing thinking it as madhyamaavathi!! My Carnatic knowledge is very limited with the 0 hours of lessons I have taken so far. Thanks for the clarification!

Murali, Thanks! A singer has to take care of both shurti and talam. But a rapper worries only about taalam. So I think the later is much simpler and easier!! That’s my take on this!!

George, Thanks! I have given the piano chords a lot of reverb. I think that mixed with Meera’s voice gives that effect your hear.

Finally, while working on long-distance collaborations the sync between the composer and the singers is very very important. I am glad that it worked out very well. I always appreciate the creative ideas offered by the singers and consider those as key elements for the song’s magic (if any!). Meera…. Your creative harmonies, evil giggles, etc really added that required ‘magic’ and increased the reach of this composition. Thanks so much!!

Excellent composition….very nice effort. I felt that the starting music could’ve been with a different instrument.

And with the charanam,
“Un kangal ennai paark a oru nodiyil uraigiraen
Un moochin veppam thaaka urugi naanum karaikiraen " could’ve been twice though not with the same lyrics, atleast with a different one….this not only adds value but also makes the charanam a bit more lengthier. The finishing seems to be forcibly ended….could’ve been even better.
