This is one of the favorite songs of all keralites. One of the best performance of Shobana also.

I would like to appreciate few things that I see in your renditions consistently.

• The first being quality of sound mixing in your cover versions. The right mix itself makes the song enjoyable.
• The right choice K-track. Pradip Ettan has indeed blessed us music lovers with this track because the punch of it is the tabala beats.
• Your confident singing was a treat to this song.
• Your right choice of partner in the rendition. Murali Ramanathan has excelled in this song. He has modulated his voice a bit to make it a bit bolder than his usual huskiness. I loved his sincerity in this rendition. He has proven that he has all the stuff to become a good playback singer, I hope he does become one soon 
• The right feel and projecting the soul of this song.
• The song is a tough one and as a layman couldn’t find any flaws. So I am giving you a 5/5 and it goes straight into my favorites.

Meera, lot better, bold and expressive that what you initially sent me to hear, but still some nitpicks here and there:
Anbe in pallavi, was not convincing as the required notes were not reached and the bhrigha did not have the classicism and weight it required. Parthaya ending could have been better and not abrupt. Ezhunthe was totally out of control and pitch and the strain was very evident. George could have helped by correcting the pitch here and this would have gone un-noticed :)
Your voice was tremendous and superb in clarity and diction Meera. I loved it so much.
Murali: I think your voice could have been more bolder and expressive to match Meera’s tone. It appeared very soft and subdued compared to your other songs I have heard. Esp, the entry Thom Thom Thom, and Thajam Thajam was too soft. But still you had your uniqueness in it.
Mixing by George was very good, but would have liked Murali’s voice to be a little more bolder and sharper to match Meera’s.

Meera, At the outset let me tell you that I enjoyed listening to this song which is a favourite of mine! When two established singers such as you and Murali get together for a song the expectations are bound to be high. Your pallavi was superb,including your improvisations. But in the charanam you did not reach the upper madhyama swara in ‘Ezhunthen’ and in the subsequent portions went off in a few spots. Quite unbecoming of you-should rework this part if possible.
Murali had a hesitant start and did not seem to be singing confidently. The male portion has to be very bright in this song.
These are only technical pointers to two talented artists. I enjoyed the song, anyway!

Nice presentatation guys…… Echo with Pradip da but to a certain extent…. Felt the mix had a lil more reverb on Meera’s voice than Murali…. A lil more dry approach would have sounded better…. I liked the combination of both the voices….as both being one of my favourites here…… Don’t want to sound too critical by all this…. Surely deserves a 5 for sure…. As Sri mentioned the expectation levels has reached sky high for me….especially after which song you know Meera…. :D

Meera & Murali – great pick. Has its disadvantage too since most Mals have this song and the scenes etched in their minds.

Meera – your voice suits the song very well. The boldness came out well, i thought , but the anguish in her during the early part of the song could have been better emoted, i thought. Liked the improvs, Meera.

Murali – very good singing. Agree with the rest that you could have sounded bolder espec since the context of the song demands a bold entry.

I am not sure if it is my headphones or my ears as such- but I have to admit that it certainly comes across as one of the way-above-average songs here….

I am not comparing your version with the original.

Loved your voice in this song. I do agree that some places could have been done better- all that has been said by the experts above. But I deem this as the most enjoyable of your “carnatic” covers so far- you have handled all the brigas quite well.

Murali’s softness in voice- Sure! But was still very pleasing to my ears! :)

I just heard the song and I thought you both did a fab job. I dont want to compare this to the original. All that matters to me is how this made me feel. Ofcourse I am not trained and maybe thats why I dont care so much.

Meera, I thought most of your improv’s were terrific. Enjoyed them a lot. For that matter, even the “Anbe” was refreshing for me. The only complaint I have is “Ezhunten”. The note was not hit there. Overall the whole rendition had originality and I loved that. Great stuff!

BTW, i still dont like your reverb. You need to do something about it.

I agree that this was a softer version and maybe if you think of the situation of the song, it might not be a perfect fit. But all that matters at the end of the day is how I feel as a listener when I hear the song and I LOVED IT :) Great job!

Whatever you do makes me to smile and enjoy! This song is no exception! After listening to this song, I glanced through the comments and came to know that there are one or two glitches. Honestly, I did not notice those while listening to it…. Those are very much negligible….

And Murali…. Man, I know I am repeating this for the 100th time, you have a mesmerizing voice bro! You have done a very good job!

I think Meera’s voice is proceeded well to give the feel of someone singing (and dancing) inside a big hall which is apt for the song’s situation (I am guessing from Chandramukhi).

My only nitpick would be….Murali’s voice is very close compared to Meera’s. Meera could have played with it a little bit to match both.

This Idiom would probably be the best to comment about this rendition. I didn’t like at the very beginning but now after it got uploaded again, its worth it listening n number of times. Mixing does add the required colour to a rendition. I wonder and admire ur proficiency in mixing Meera! Asaththal…. After listening to this number for 5 continuous times, I could infer certain things and I am glad to share what I imbibed and what have to be looked at by you, both.

Meera!

• I genuflect for attempting all genre of songs. A royal salute for that and u r a real linguist.

• This particular number covered in ur voice is stunningly good. As u have mentioned, it should have come earlier from the stack. Better late than never.

• Attitude was awesome. U kept ur confidence exhibited through-out.

• Expression was so good. However at certain places it lacked the required feel. But maintaining the tempo of the song and the scale concentrating on the feel/expression is not as simple as we discuss here about. Its really herculean.

• And I could note a bit of nasal influence in this rendition. ‘PaarthaYAA’ n ‘TheerthaYOO’ substantiates it all. and the notes there could have been articulated with some extra elegance. Never mind since the song has such a tempo that one has to rush to the next line. :-) ‘Anbey’ was delivered nicely.

• Your flow in this cover is highly commendable. Am influenced with goose-bumps. Your voice has got divine fluidity. A sustained and persevered practice would always shell out wonders. Hope it suits u as well. I pray sincerely that u excel in music. My best wishes.

• I am hearing u for the first time covering such a song with classical dominance. You have come outta that soft-voiced spell. Its nice that u can cover the other genre of songs in the ensuing days.

• I felt u could have sung boldly than what u have done now – in the places where u utter ‘Thom, Thom, Thom’. Cos it could give an impeccable colour to the song which portrays the gist(exhibiting the divinity and reverence of Bharathanaatyam)of this particular movie. And so I always wish to tell the fellow singers here to go for a cover after having watched the video of the song. You can emote and deliver aptly what it demands.

• But I liked the expressions u carried towards the end of this number. Your diction was good, I suppose. Am not sure as I dont know Malayalam. ;-) But could infer the meaning from the picturisation and the choreography of this particular song. A Pat on ur back dude.

P.S: I have given my comments as per my perception and listening. I am sorry if I were wrong. And some of my suggestions were intuitive to some extent. lol I wish you both to accomplish more in music. And a general suggestion(last but not least) its quite inevitable to follow the style of a pro singer in a particular song but its fairly avoidable imitating the voice. You both have got stupendous individuality and make use of it. Thanks for intriguing me to listen to the original track as well.

But I completely agree with Rajeev’s excellent pointers. EzunthEn la vizundhuttE :) Also it is niththam “ingu” not “enna” I think. And This song needs a much higher syllabic stress (or throw) than you have put in. NEeds to be sung with more “avEsham”

Ramanathan thEdum baale :) Jathis need much more syllabic stress. They sounds like just another portion of a melody. You are usually dot on shruti and this is no exception.
