Generally I avoid writing profuse comments but when I listen to this rendition, I want to write so much!

This song was like warm rain! I am so very fond of this song for several reasons and have wanted to cover it for a long time. I guess I won’t now after this stupendous performance! :) I am a huge fan of the two of you and am elated to hear this song in your voices. Easily one of the best duets here in a long time!

First about the song itself. I can’t help shedding tears of joy when I think of the ingenuity of IR in composing 2 songs in the same raagam(KalyaaNi) during the same time period but with totally different flavours although there is a striking similarity in tune (the other one is Janani Janani). Both songs had verses from Soundarya Lahiri in the start which made it even closer to my heart.

The song is a romantic number and succinctly depicts the chemistry between two souls from two very different backgrounds that could not be levelled in anything but music and love! And to include a slokam before the song to show the divinity in love- sheer stroke of genius! :)

Raj- You were awesome as usual. Just couldn’t believe that you had done the swarams so well without any training! You were at your best in Charanam2 and the feel you brought out in the song is unparallelled. Please start learning music because it is going to give you a mighty advantage in grasping intricate tunes and delivering them with utmost ease and comfort. Very unusual to see minor shruthi slips in your rendition but I am just not bothered about all that at this moment. My blessings to you for a very bright career in Music! :)

Sheer brilliance! For a minute, I forgot that this wasn’t the original. Your sangathis were enthralling and delivered crystal clear. The starin is possibly due to the high pitch but you managed it extremely well that it wasn’t a hindrance to enjoying the song. “podhume” was topclass! I only wish the track hadn’t come with SJ’s initial humming ’cos you would have rocked in that too if you had sung it :)

I am hoping that more people will come to this page to enjoy this warm shower of sheer bliss!

Thanks all for your comments and time. Noted my flaws. Would surely do better in the ensuing days. About this song, when Meera suggested I had no clue as how this song would be. After knowing that this was from Kadhal Oviyam, I was damn sure that this would be an awesome number from IR’s club. Surely it is. Meera had sent me her voice file 2 months back. As usual being lazybones and cos of my hectic schedule I was not able to complete it. Meera was so patient with me. Someone else would have kicked me. :-) And I am grateful to Adithi and Shrikanth Kumar for helping me to understand the notes in swarams. I mean the notations. Without them, I would not have rendered this. It took me one full day to learn it. I personally feel I have done justice to this rendition as it was a challenge for me to finish it soon. I have done it shortly with the little mercy shown by my throat. Would feel obliged if anyone could help me guiding as how to maintain the tone of the voice. I mean some guidance would do. It seems to be ambivalent. :-(

Jittu!!! U r right. That alaap was sung differently at the beginning in my own style. When I happened to play it again while someone was on the call, that person instructed me to redo it as the raaga got changed with this style of delivering the alaap. :-( What to do?? Have redone that. And my throat got punctured. oooooooozzzzzzzzzz. Kaaththu poachchu pa. Verum kaaththu thaan vanthuthu. So appadiye paadittaen. Scale was not as the original. I practised this song listening to the original. That may also be a reason. Thavarugal thiruththa padum. Thanks again for all your valuable pointers and feedback.

Raj, Mind boggling man ! This should be your best or shud i say inline with ithazhil kathai ezhuthum that you did before. Apart from very minor blips, you were awesome. You were just not good, you were amazing man. Liked it a lot. Special mention for your swaram portions and subtle sangathis.

Meera, I dont know if am repeating this again and again every work of yours. Your voice is so clear, smooth and just flows. Just felt a little strain on the higher notes. “Podume” sangathi was out of the world. Standing ovation !!!

listening again just because of tara’s comment…she is right but sometimes people do this to maintain the shruti or to avoid the off notes…

SBP does this…not in this way…but u can find it in many songs he plays with ‘iN’ and ‘il’ when it is in high notes…it has been absorbed by us as his style…

however raj can take a call on this…

meera… since i listenied it again …i ahve noticed…u touched all the high notes just like that….truly u r a perfectionist…liked it more than before…:)

Very nice singing by both of you. I don’t remember how many times I’ve heard (and I still hear this) the original song by the great SPB and SJ ever since this album was released because I love this song so much. So, there are little things to nitpick in your rendition but again I would rather enjoy your rendition and leave those to others.
