In the long history of humankind (and animal kind, too) those who learned to collaborate and improvise most effectively have prevailed. I harp these words to myself more often and break the barrier to approach people for venturing into a collaboration. And the magic of this sort is imminent if people of high calibre collaborate.

About this movie, have loads and loads to reminisce when I had gathered many trivial things and scoops during my college days striving to meet Mani Ratnam.(which ended up in vain) And from this movie, Mani Ratnam have not had a chance to look back at all. First movie of his, which enticed the Bollywood audience as well. So many interesting things are profuse about this movie. One such interesting matter is this song. As this movie was based on the life of Varadaraja Mudaliyar in Mumbai who was an underworld don, the art director Thotta Tharani had to work round-the-clock to bring-in the streets of Mumbai and its slum of those days. Ilayaraja had waved his baton and the result was a set of immortal numbers. P.C.Sriram used the lens of his camera to etch out the best of paintings of life on the film-rolls. Kamal Hassan was announced the best male actor by the National Film Award Committee. This was a huge blockbuster then grossing over 5 Crores. This particular song was composed and picturised as to bring those days of Varadaraja Mudaliyar onto screen. Novel thought which was completely and truly justified by Mrs Jamuna Rani(who has rendered more than 5000 songs in all the south-indian languages) and Mrs M.S.Rajeswari(who was known for her child-like voice. Can we ever forget her ‘Ammavum Neeye’ and those songs from ‘Parasakthi’). Nice song and picturisation – a complete befitting blend of song and video to the situation. oops. Wanna write more…. Meera! pls do pardon me. Will stop here.

Pisaasu aka Adithi(as I call u)!!! Very controlled singing. That ‘oye’ is spine-tingling with-which I can easily relate to the video of this song. And ur intentional induction of nasality at certain places adds allure to this song. I am very happy that the classical influence is getting subdued eventually. Nice way to enter into another collaboration after your ‘Oru Kili’ with Sowmya. You are on a roll. And about ur citation of metaphor – ven pongal and sakkarai pongal. When someone is left starved without being supplied food and if he is given a piece of junk to eat, that moment that junk would surely be an elixir. So ven pongal or sakkarai pongal the saraththu is important. Both of ur voices are like the rice which can be cooked as we wish – sakkarai pongal/ven pongal/fried rice/sambar rice/jeera rice/curd rice. He he he. Naan oru saappaattu raaman. So ur comparison stands good but my explanation is a substantiating one.God bless you and wishing you the best to reap out as the result.

Asuri aka Meera(kovichchukaathey)!!! Stupendous. Enna oru attitude!!! Have been listening to all your renditions here. Top-class performances. However I had a feeling that something was missing. I really couldn’t figure it out. But this rendition has something poured-in to fill out that enigmatic vacuum. I had been admiring your tone and am spell-bound. Your singing does demonstrate how sweet-talk must really be. ;-) Thanks for your generosity to accept my request in rendering this with Adithi. It has come out mercuriously. Hope your journey drifts to professional singing very soon. Wish to watch out my favourite heroines shaking legs for your songs. Hope this come true. All the best. May God bless you.

About this track I had found this after a tedious search. :-( So thought this could be decorated with these 2 prominent voices. And my intuition has never failed. I can see that here as well. And the humming spotted in the interlude was awesome – a complete and meaningful synchronisation of two of the most-admired voices and this harmony is simply out of the world sort. Regarding the mixing, Meera – you are miles away. Need to roll my sleeves and start my run. Exquisite.

My heart-felt gratitude for covering this and dedicating it to me. Am on cloud nine. Thalaivar padam; Mani’s direction; Raja’s music; P.C’s camera; Thotta’s art-work; M.S and Jamuna ammas’ voices(covered) – in Meera’s space in Muziboo…. Awesome package… Nalla varuveenga makkaley!!!! ;-)

P.S: Pls do collaborate more and revive some uncovered gems of Monochromatic films. They are real feast to work-on and here I suggest this putting myself in a singer’s shoes for a while. We can really gauge our strength and weakness and improve further. At the end of the day, we can excel if asked for an extemporized singing(Minding Meera’s live shows). Thats it from me.

Adithi, Amazing singing. Kalakeetinga as usual. Unga effort to imbibe the style of the song has a special appreciation. Places where your modulations were great especially, “naan sirithal” appram oru pause kuduthu when you start again it was great. egade"shi" nu varam @ some places, but think u sung always as “egadesi”. Deepavali e e ‘hoi’ will be the highlight. Similarly the Charanam ending sangathis oru kalaku kalaki pallavi start pannathu amsam ! Unga voice ven pongal maathiri a ! Ven pongal endha kalathula inichirku ! :) Favorite it is !

Meera, Nicely different from Adithi’s voice and ur texture is specially professional and gives the mature feel the song needs. “Vandahadhu ellam” start pannathu oru kick. Lalala la la in the interlude was great and the best thing about your singing is it is crystal clear. Mixing requires a special mention.

Thanks a lot for doing this. Intha mathiri great singers coming together and singing golden numbers is lovely. Expecting more ! Well done raj.

I very much enjoyed this. Both your voices are sweeter than a sakkarai pongal!! But, I could find out a clear difference in the recording quality. If you notice carefully, Meera’s voice will be very crispy and Adithi’s one slightly muffled. I think that’s because of the difference between condenser and the dynamic mics…. So Meera’s is like a sakkarai pongal from silver paathiram (SM86 condenser) and Adhiti’s is like a sakkarai pongal from stainless steel paathiram (SM56 dynamic)!! Sorry, romba kadiya pottathukku!
