Meera, good overall but somehow I felt you did not open up and sang it plainly and subdued. The stress on many words required were not there. And your Hindi diction was not as good as your other songs. Some examples are “sitha” “beeg” “logoomka” “thaane” “unkho”. 3.16 to 3.20 was out of pitch too. The “phir quoo” extended sounded odd too. To be frank, maybe it’s because am used to Kishore da’s soulful but still forceful singing which rings always in the ears :) Maybe a re-do will take care of the issues as you are so capable of correcting yourself. Jay’s work was brilliant as always.

Wellsung ….you have a great voice , and I am sure when someone posts a song one expects an honest feedback and somewhere in their heart they expect appreciation too….your a very good singer, the only thing I didnt like in your rendition was the diction….diction is not a big deal you can easily take care of that, please do that . It’s a very popular and a beautiful song so when you have prominent diction issues , people who like your voice and your renditon ,would be disappointed. Kindly take care of your diction when you sing hindi numbers , it would only show your dedication towards perfection . and your listeners would be happier.

You know I am a sucker for language. So pardon my incisiveness.

I agree fully with Pradip. You must approach somebody like Pradip (who has done extensive learning in the language and genre) before attempting such songs. Once you digest the original you are welcome to interpret in your own way (which you do well). If Pradip or say Rajesh are unavailable, you could approach a native hindi speaker and ask them to just say the lyrics (not sing…just recite) and practice those words first and then attempt singing them.

I have a strong feeling u did not do as much homework on the diction as you normally would for a non-tamil song.

In case, you have strong reservations about attempting a language (like I do for hindi) you may also choose the alternate-lyrics route where you could sing the tamil version of the song. Just a suggn.

words like bheeg gaye , seetha, chhodo, beet na jaaye(jaaye needs to be softer on the ye) …, taane (not thaane) , aate(t -as is in tapas) (not aathe) , etc….
i also found a lot more classical touch to the song than would be expected from a kishore song but i guess that is your take on it… but the song is a lot more softer on the gamakas…
kishore kumars songs are everygreen which is why you would find a lot of ppl reacting in more ways than usual :)
but over i think you have a done a fab job as always…. :)

Sorry a bit late here I guess; came across your version from Jayswami’s space where I heard Hricha’s rendition. Good singing too Meera and liked it. Only thing is I felt that it was a bit ‘sleepy’ and the way you applied the nuances brought about that effect I guess. Otherwise was quite soothing and very nice. Kudos!.
