Sreeragamo - Pavithram
Sreeragamo - Pavithram Lyrics & Chords
Sarath is one of the most talented music directors in recent times and his songs are also very challenging to sing. This is one of his all time best compositions (my opinion) in Malayalam from the movie Pavithram (1994).
The beautiful lyrics are by the great ONV Kurup and the original was sung impeccably by KJY. The movie starred Mohanlal and Shobana in lead roles – lovely movie too. The other songs in the movie are also superb.
Contrary to the suggestive title, this semi-classical song is based on Kharaharapriya (Kaafi in the Hindustani genre).
This is my humble attempt at this classic. With my limited classical training (which I have restarted recently), this song was quite a challenge. Look forward to you valuable feedback.

Beautiful voice Kumar! This is one my all time favorite by music director Sarath (or Sharreth as he is now known).
‘Sreeragamo’ could have been sustained a tad little more. The swarams are awesome. There was a minor delay at the start of vocals.
This is a song on my radar too, got to try it one day :-)

Kumar, excellent singing. I was present during the composing and recording of this song-brings back very nostalgic memories. A brilliant composition of Sharath in kharaharapriya.
This song being in the 7/8 rythm is difficult to sing-there were minor problems of ‘kaalapramanam’ in the swaras and charanam. Also a few slips in both the charanams. You are talented enough to take care of all that-probably rework with more perfection.
Keep singing!

Hello Kumar… :)
You have a nice voice… Enjoyed the singing and the feel…
One of my all time favs of Sharath sir! You sang the song very well… It is a difficult light one from Sharath sir! :) The swaram was sung very beautifully even though the tabla in the background did not back your singing in one line of the swaram “SRGM RGMP GMPD MPDN….” I felt there was a lack of the sync… Nothg wrong with ur singing… pls dnt get me wrong… The tabla piece played there is continuous, whereas it is actually supposed to pause with the singer when he sing “SRGM- RGMP-…” and so on… Still hats off to you for singing the swaram without any miss. :)
Just a few of my thoughts on this song:
- I the “Pularkanyayaay” in the pallavi was very abrupt. I guess a smooth continuous flow to “Sreeragamo” after “Pularakanyayaay” would have brought out the beauty of the tht line.
- Am not sure if you have pronounced the word as “Pathaala” when singing the swaram… It is supposed to be “Pakkaala”…
- Also in quite a few places the smooth ending was not seen… There was some abrupt end given to some lines… Please check them, as when these are sung in a flow, the song will sound amazzzzzing!
Whatever it might be, I just bow my head before you for attempting this song for 2 reasons… One cos it is definitely a tough song to sing… Secondly, for selecting one of our Annachi’s best composition…. :)
Well done! All the very best from me!

Great singing Kumar, the modulations were very impressive. Technically, I felt the voice needs a little de-esser; the ‘ch’ and ‘s’ sounds were harsh. A gentle cut somewhere between 6 and 10khz on the vocals should help.
Keep it up, Kumar. That we haven’t been able to collaborate till now is entirely my loss.
Cheers

Kumar – very nice pick again and a tough one too. I liked the way you opened and sang the pallavi espec. You made it sound quite effortless – espec the swaram patches(the Pa note at 1:44 can be better). Your lower register at the moham parts and thanthiyil needs some more strengthening. Second charanam – kevalanda line can be better.
Overall, a very good attempt of this tough one, Kumar. The feel of the song came through well. 5 from me.

Lo Behold! What a voice man :-) You sang it really well. Are you a keralite? If not my kodi pranams to you. Because not once did I feel that it was not a malayalee singing this….
The pointers I noted has been rightly said by my brother Sushanth. I just felt that in pallavi the ending notes were abrupt Ponthanthiyil….and Nammalil…a little sustain…would have made it better….
But I loved your rendition…. Sharath Sir what can I say “You are great”.

OMG! Beautiful, Kumar :)
What a ragam and what composition(pallai udaikkum swarangal :D)! You were awesome in singing the swara portion.
Charanam rendition could have been bolder and some sangathis asked for more clarity.
But the clincher in this song was your lower sthaayi notes- simply awesome!

Nice choice of song. Enjoyed the veena and flute pieces.
You have a lovely voice and a good breath control. It sure sounds like a tough one (I haven’t heard the original) but a nice attempt and well sung. Some parts could have been bolder, I felt. Swarams were good. There were some offs but still enjoyed the rendition.

You have rendered the song. But let me not flatter you by saying that you did full justice to this song. You have a problem with breath control and here and there you’re loosing control of the depth of your voice. Please do not mind my criticism. I’m trying to be a constructive critic and do not intend to discredit your effort. Even I have the problem with breath ever since I started smoking. Overall I’d give you 5.8/10 for this rendition.
By the way, how do you sing with a track. I’m quite new here and would be grateful if you could tell me how to go about doing that.
