First time listening to Sowmya! Nice voice… thought it was mildly pitchy at places though, barring that felt the backing orchestration could have been a little more elaborate perhaps? Just a personal opinion though :)
Overall, enjoyable!

Mohanam is a ragam one can depend on to entice listeners in general. In fact all the graha-bedhams of mohanam namely hindolam, shuddha saveri, madhyamavathi and shuddha dhanyaasi are greatly pleasant ragams which always strike a chord with the listener.
To bring out a composition in one of the ragams, it is essential to bring in their associated gamakams and anuswarams. Of course, if the composition is extremely light (like for example aalila thaaliyumaay) one does not have to stick to the rigorous grammar requirements. I would consider your effort to belong to the later category.
There are some areas which need some improvement.
1. I could not understand what the lyrics wanted to convey wholesomely. Is it longing ? (viragam) or contemplatin ? It ain’t quite clear.
“eppadi eppadi vendru mudiththaay ?”
- I wonder if you are referring to him winning over her heart. Also, Sowmya could do a bit more in clearly pronouncing the syllables in some places. When I heard the last line, I thought it was kanigaL (fruits) viduththu while it was kaNaigaL (arrows) when I went up and checked.
Some strong metaphors are also recommended to infuse more vigor in the lyrics (unlike vaali’s maane thene).
2. The singing is very uncertain in many places. Another take could be very useful for improving the song in general. For example the beginning aalaap certainly deserves a revisit since the end notes do sound off.
3. Orchestration : Since you are at the beginning stages of composing, I understand the orchestration will grow in time. I really liked the simplistic orchestration although as a fellow arranger some portions, as I hear, tell me “hey you could have used a texture here, a flute there” etc. I was particularly impressed by your beats though. And it did remind me of aalila thaaliyumaay by Master Ravindran. But what is most notable is your conservative approach to preserve the melodic feel of the lead tune through out without overdoing with orch’n. In the future you may dare to add some twists and turns, but for this song and the stage that you are at, I think you have done very well.

Dear Kitchaji
What a melodious composition. Not less than to any original main stream music. No idea about the lyrics. But the sheer melody is enough for me. Sowmya has a very sweet voice indeed.
Raag Mohnam is similar to Khamaj & it is a such a wonderful raag which has used in a lot of romantic semi classical hindi songs. Love your composition:)

Murali, thanks for your time and comments :).
The lyrics was mainly driven towards more of an interaction with love itself than the lover :). Visu maadhiri kozapparanaa :).
I don’t know about the song aalila your mentioning. So couldnt relate :).
Orchestration wise, yes I’m still a beginner but still felt it’s enough for the song. Will try more stuff in future songs :).
I’m not a raga expert like you but Im trying to compose in a raga. Hopefully more nuances will come out in my upcoming songs :).

A person like me will always wonder how talented you are as I do not know to write lyrics or compose or identify the Ragaa……
Simply Great Kitcha….
The vocal of the lady is very lovely and also felt like was sung by a girl who has just fallen in love and expressing her self.
Lovely lyrics and lovely composition.

Kitcha,
Not knowing anything about Raaga, to me….from a simple listener’s perspective….your tune is neat and simple, still very enjoyable and fits in the mood. Singer Sowmya has done beautiful effort in bringing out your creation. It sounds like “Narumugaye….” type of song to me. (He…He…namakku avvalavu thaan theriyum).
Loved it…all the way for your creativity.
